ATLANTIS, FL – The South Florida PGA is proud to announce that Colin Baesler of Ft. Myers is the recipient of the 2012 South Florida PGA Professional Golf Management University (PGM) Scholarship at Florida Gulf Coast University. This scholarship is a $2,500 grant annually awarded to one student enrolled in the PGA Golf Management University Program at Florida Gulf Coast University and meeting all eligibility requirements.
Baesler, a former U.S. Marine who served nine months in Iraq, from September 2006 to May 2007, began college later than most of his peers, but when he did he knew he wanted to pursue a career in the golf industry.
In the Fall of 2008 Baesler enrolled in the Professional Golf Management University Program at Florida Gulf Coast University looking to become a Class A Member. In November of 2009 Baesler passed his Players Ability Test (PAT), and has been on track ever since, expected to graduate this December.
Over the past four years Baesler has worked at various facilities throughout the country, fulfilling his internship needs including, Western Hills Golf Club in Waterbury Connecticut, The Broadmoor Resort in Colorado Springs, The Meadows Golf and Country Club in Sarasota, and Stoneybrook Golf Course in Estero. This summer Baesler is employed at Pure Performance Golf Labs in Naples, where he is an assistant club fitter and builder.
While at Florida Gulf Coast University Baesler has volunteered countless hours to his community, helping with the Mission of Hope Haiti project, assisting with the organization of two Patriot Golf Days, and coordinating a Play Golf America Day for juniors. Along with his community involvement Baesler is actively involved in “Students Who Served”, an organization at Florida Gulf Coast University designed to help veterans make their transition from the military to college life.
Baesler is passionate about the game of golf, excited to become a PGA member, and looking forward to growing the game of golf upon graduation. This December Baesler will seek employment within the golf industry, looking to utilize his knowledge and experience in club fitting and building. We wish him the best in all of his future endeavors.
About the SFPGA PGM Scholarship at FCGU
This is the third year that the South Florida PGA has awarded the PGA PGM University Scholarship at Florida Gulf Coast University. This award was created to financial assistance to aspiring young men and women in the PGA Professional Golf Management University Program. This scholarship is open to all Florida Gulf Coast University students currently enrolled in or entering into his/her junior or senior year of studies in the PGM program. Students must also have completed Level 1 of the PGM program and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0.
