Pinal County, AZ – During a special meeting on June 9, 2015, the Pinal County Community College Governing Board listened to community concerns during a call to the public and discussed the tax increase passed in May.
The Board voted to reduce the tax levy from $2.76 to $2.30. This amount reflects a decrease of 46 cents to the CAC portion of the total county tax bill.
Since 2006, CAC has seen a reduction of 80% in state funding and has received no capital funding since 2008. Capital funds are used for new construction and renovation of facilities. CAC already faces at least $43 million in deferred maintenance for its aging facilities. The College faces increased operating expenses each year.
With this vote to reduce the tax levy and budget, the College is forced to make difficult decisions on its priorities. The College is evaluating its most critical needs regarding facilities, technology and staffing.
