About Serpentine Running Club

Serpentine is possibly the largest running and triathlon club in Britain. We have [[:total_members]] members of whom [[:percent_women]]% are women. We have a wide variation of ages: a few juniors, many young people, a few in their eighties and everything in-between. There is a more detailed breakdown of the membership on our club facts page. However, although we are large, we like to think we retain a friendly, small club atmosphere and always welcome newcomers.

Our roots were in road running but these days our members take part in all sorts of sporting activities loosely related to running. We compete in road races all year round; then in the winter we also do cross country, taking part in two leagues, as well as in County and National Championships; and in summer, we have men's and women's track & field teams in the Southern Athletics League, the Southern Vets League, and the Rosenheim League. The other major focus in summer of course is triathlon and duathlon racing, with members competing at every distance (in fact several hundred club members only ever compete in multi-sport). We have several members who have competed at international level for England and other nations in running, track & field, duathlon and triathlon competitions.

We have club runs on Wednesday evenings and on Saturday and Sunday mornings; track or other coached sessions on a number of other days; cycle rides most weekends; swim training on various weekday evenings; and a selection of other training activities such as spin classes. Nobody goes to all these sessions every week, but quite a few of us make it to a few. Our training diary gives all the details. Wednesday night is our busiest run, with several hundred participants at peak times of the year, leading up to marathons. You are welcome to run with us once or twice on our Wednesday or Saturday sessions, even if you are not a member: why not come along and then decide if you want to join?

Because of our central London location, we welcome many members from overseas. We are very sociable, and many of our training sessions and other events end up in the pub.
