Alas, the final post of the 2013 Solid Link Building Plan begins. We’ve covered all previous chapters of the 2013 Solid Link Building Plan. Such chapters have included keyword research, on-page optimization, fundamental link building concepts, competition research, and link building request emails. We shall now finish the epic saga with some solid examples of link request emails.
The Link Email Request Model
Composing link requests is arguably the most time-consuming part of link building. Since link building is primarily a numbers game, you want to streamline this process as much as possible without sacrificing the quality of the email.
First, you must identify the type of link request you’re sending. As stated in my previous post, there are different types of requests. You may be contacting a blogger to offer guest blogging. Or you may be looking to seek a sponsored ad spot. You might even be asking to be added to the “Links” page for a particular site. Nonetheless, this is the most vital step in building the link email. Here are some examples.
Offering to Be a Guest Blogger
Subject Line: Guest Post or Article Contribution for “Site Name” – Your Company or Site Name
My name is “Name,” and I own “Your Site/Company Name” (Provide a link to your site either in parenthesis here or by hyper-linking the name of your site). I came across “Site Name” during my research.
*Try to comment or provide some feedback on the blog or site here. Aim for a comment that would be relevant to your site or industry. Let them know you took the time to REALLY look at their content.
The reason for my message today is to ask you about submitting a guest post or article to your “Site.” I currently do not have an article ready though. Instead, I was hoping that I could share a few ideas with you that would ensure a good fit for your audience. Here’s what I was thinking:
- Article Topic #1
- Article Topic #2
- Article Topic #3
What do you think? The article would be exclusive to your site and would probably be between 800 – 1200 words. It could be ready and formatted for your site in less than a week. However, if there’s another topic you’d prefer, I’d love to discuss it with you.
Bottom line: I’d love to submit an article draft for your review and feedback. Let me know if you’d like to discuss this opportunity further!
Thank you for your consideration! I look forward to hearing from you!
Best,
Name
Pay attention to the various details in this email. I provide all the details and research to the site owner. In fact, I’ve made it very difficult for the site owner to reject my proposal. Who wouldn’t want free content? (I’ve also written a few posts on how to initiate a guest blogging campaign).
Sponsorships or Advertisements
Subject Line: Sponsorship on “Site Name” – Your Company/Site Name
My name is “Name,” and I own “Your Site/Company Name” (Provide a link to your site either in parenthesis here or by hyper-linking the name of your site). I came across “Site Name” during my research.
I noticed that you listed a few useful sponsors on your site. I’m looking to raise awareness and promote my own site, “Your Site/Company Name.” I’d love to discuss with you some more about the sponsorship opportunities on your site.
Please feel free to reach out to me so that we can discuss this opportunity further.
I look forward to hearing from you, and thanks again for your consideration! I hope you have a great day!
Best,
Name
This email is straightforward. There’s not a real need to court the site owner or blogger since they offer advertising opportunities on their site. Most likely, they’re waiting for people like you to contact them.
General Link Email Requests
Subject Line: “Site Name” Resources – Your Company/Site Name
My name is “Name,” and I own “Your Site/Company Name” (Provide a link to your site either in parenthesis here or by hyper-linking the name of your site). I came across “Site Name” during my research.
*Try to comment or provide some feedback on the blog or site here. Aim for a comment that would be relevant to your site or industry.
I noticed you featured several resources on one of your pages (Reference the page that you’re looking to get a link from).
Have you ever checked out “Your Site/Company Name?” I mention it because we have similar resources to the ones listed on your page. Feel free to check some of them out here (Hyperlink to your page that you’re looking to get a link for).
I’d love for you to check it out, and if it makes sense, maybe you could share the information on your “Target” page.
If you decide to check it out and have any questions or feedback, please don’t hesitate to let me know! The more feedback we have, the better!
Thanks again for your time in this request, and I look forward to hearing from you! Have a great day!
Best,
Name
This is an excellent example of a simple, yet friendly outreach. By offering a useful resource to the site owner, they’re much more likely to be open to linking to your site.
Those are 3 examples of quality link requests that have been proven to work. Try using the above examples as basic templates for those types of outreaches. Like a cover letter or resume, you’ll want to tailor each template and email accordingly based on the type of site, blog, or person you’re reaching out to.
You now have everything you need to begin your link building campaign. From the initial research, to a foundational base to begin your link building, finding sites to target for links, and reaching out to those sites and asking for links, you have all the information, tools, and tactics necessary for a solid, long-term link building plan. With the Solid 2013 Link Building Plan, you’ll be able to withstand any update Google or any other search engine may throw at you. Now what are you waiting for? Go find some places to ask for some links!
