Welcome to Linky NYC, our pick of the week’s five-borough news from across the Web.

The people have decided: old judges must go New York City said yes to Brooklynite Bill de Blasio for mayor yesterday – and said no to raising the retirement age for certain judges. The amendment, Proposition 6, would have raised to 80 from 70 the mandatory retirement age for Supreme Court and Court of Appeals judges, though not for lower court judges. Supporters of the referendum pointed out that the current retirement age was set during the US Civil War when 70 was a ripe old age. Some who were opposed to the amendment wanted to push for a more broadly based version that would also raise the age for lower court judges. With some precincts still reporting, Prop 6 is opposed by 61 percent of voters, with 39 percent supporting.   Click here to read more.

Seniors at the Marathon Did you know that seniors travel from around the world to take part in the New York City Marathon? This year, the NYC Department for the Aging sent a photographer to take pictures of older runners – you can find the images on DFTA’s Tumblr blog as well as its Facebook page and Instagram feed. Among the runners were Anna Nuti, 67, and Edoardo Vaghetto, 74, from Italy (above).

Rising Waters  A year after the onslaught of Superstorm Sandy, the Museum of the City of New has mounted a show of photographs taken by ordinary, flood challenged New Yorkers during and in the aftermath of  the storm. Some 10,000 New Yorkers submitted images for the show; 200 were selected. Among these crowdsourced pictures are one taken in Sayville, LI by Amy Medina:

and this astounding photograph that Broad Channel, Queens resident Michael Stewart took just before the flood waters broke through his storm door. (If you look carefully, you’ll see the fish!). The show is up through March 2.

Retiree protection When Verizon sold off 41,000 former management retiree pensions to Prudential Insurance Company earlier this year, many New Yorkers were divested of their federal protections under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act according to New York State Assemblyman Steven Katz. So recently, Katz introduced legislation to protect retirees whose pensions get sold or spun off by their former employers. Katz expects there will be bipartisan support for the bill.
