Starling Senior Living to Break Ground on Third Fla. Project
Jacksonville, Fla.-based Starling Senior Living is gearing up to break ground on its third senior living community in the state come January, the company told SHN in an email.
In July, the company successfully rezoned a five-acre parcel located on Amelia Island, Fla., allowing for the development of 110 independent living, assisted living and memory care units.
Project plans call for resort-style amenities, including a full-service spa, gourmet dining, multiple courtyards, along with resident flower and vegetable gardens.
Though still currently in the design phase, Starling plans to break ground on the development in January 2015.
Past projects from the company have included developments in Jacksonville and Riverview, both assisted living and memory care communities ranging from 89-units and 92-units.

Pinkard Construction, ABHOW to Build Assisted Living Addition
Lakewood, Colo.-based Pinkard Construction, along with American Baptist Homes of the West (ABHOW) and William Brummett Architects, will celebrate the groundbreaking of a new assisted living and memory care building in Wheat Ridge, Colo.
The new 14,00-square-foot addition will add 22 apartments to the Mountain Vista campus, and is slated to open in January 2015.
Ryan Companies Breaks Ground on $31.7 Million Ill. Community
Ryan Companies recently broke ground on its newest project, a $31.7 million senior living community in Mokena, Ill., reports MultiHousingNews.
The project, Clarendale of Mokena, will add 156 units to the market, offering options for independent, assisted living and memory care.
Unit mix on the 11.4-acre development will include 60 independent living residences, 56 assisted living and 40 memory care, along with several common areas for dining and activities.
Community amenities will include a bistro, pub, billiards room, club room and library, living rooms with fireplaces, a vaulted multipurpose room, a wellness center with salon, spa and fitness room, as well as a private patio and courtyard.
Minneapolis-based Elness Swenson Graham Architects Inc. also partnered on the project, which upon completion will be managed by LCS.
Construction Underway on New Spectrum Community in Ill.
Denver-based Spectrum Retirement Communities is currently underway on its latest endeavor, Westbrook Senior Living, located in Streamwood, Ill.
The three-story, 136,000-square-foot development features 152 residences, including Westbrook’s Transitional Memory Care program, aspects of which were featured on NBC Nightly News in a story on the rise in mobile and social gaming.
St. Louis-based Vessel Architecture & Design and Westmont, Ill.-based Charles Hall Construction also collaborated on the project.
Westbrook Senior Living is set to open in summer 2015, according to a release from Spectrum. It is the company’s fourth community in Ill.
Country Meadow Place Nears Completion of Memory Care Remodel
Country Meadow Place, a senior living community in Mason City, Iowa, announced this week that it is now accepting residents for a new 36 apartment assisted living and memory care community.
Formerly Willow Point, Country Meadow Place has undergone an entire building renovation and has added a state-of-the-art security system for its memory care wing.
The remodeled community features private apartments as well as common areas, including a central dining room with restaurant-style dining, spa, beauty salon, activity room and private gathering areas for family and friends.
Country Meadow Place is currently being remodeled by Oakview DCK and managed by Senior Housing Management of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, a company that provides management services for 13 other communities throughout the state.
A grand opening ceremony for the newest addition is slated for December.
Leo Brown Group Commences $19.5 Million Louisville Project
Carmel, Ind.-based developer Leo Brown Group LLC has begun construction on a $19.5 million senior living community near Fern Creek, KY, reports Louisville Business First.
The 130-unit development, dubbed Traditions at Beaumont, will be part of the larger Beaumont residential community, which is currently being developed by Pinnacle Properties of Louisville LLC.
Housing for the senior living community will include independent living, two-bedroom garden homes. An assisted living community will also provide assistance, along with a separate memory care wing.
Developers expect Traditions at Beaumont will be ready to accept its first residents in the spring.

HCR ManorCare Opens New Post-Acute Care Center in Ohio
Toledo, Ohio-based HCR ManorCare announced this week the opening of its 47th post-acute health care center in the state of Ohio.
The 120-bed Heartland of Twinsburg features skilled nursing care and rehabilitation services for short-term patients transitioning from hospital to home. Also featured in the community is MedBridge, a unit dedicated to short-term stays.
A state-of-the-art therapy gym, private and semi-private rooms with flatscreen TVs, telephone service, WiFi and multi-purpose rooms including a spa and salon are also boasted amenities.
Meridian Realty Advisors Celebrates Opening of Texas SNF
Dallas-based developer Meridian Realty Advisors will soon celebrate the grand opening of a new skilled nursing and rehabilitation community in Bee Cave, Texas.
Situated on 16 acres and sharing site with another new Meridian memory care building, Park Manor Bee Cave embraces an updated approach to the conventional nursing home, where two care neighborhoods will serve 60 residents, each featuring its own living and dining areas.
In total, the community provides 120-140 beds within its 53,000-square-foot structure, Meridian noted in a release.
Park Manor marks the fourth project Meridian has undertaken with Pi Architects, an Austin-based firm. Houston-based company HMG Services LLC will operate the community.
