$30 Million Senior Living Community Coming to San Antonio
Dallas-based three: living architecture is designing a $30 million senior living community for San Antonio residents living in the Alamo Heights neighborhood.
The project, dubbed Franklin Park, will feature 115 independent living units, 62 assisted living units and 40 memory care units within 315,000-square-feet.
Since the community sits on a hill, there will be a 40-foot drop across an “L” shaped site, which has allowed three to design several landscaped courtyards for visitors to enjoy as they make their way vertically up the hill, notes three: living architecture Founder and President Gary Koerner.
The community will also feature an art gallery that will be open to the public as well as a free-standing coffee house run completely by Franklin Park residents.
three collaborated with Dallas-based companies Faulkner Design Group for the interiors and Mesa Design Group for landscape architecture.
Groundbreaking for the Franklin Park project is slated for February 2014.
Franklin Management Services will operate the community upon opening.
Developers to Move Forward with $50 Million Senior Housing Plans
A $50 million senior living development in Norristown, Pennsylvania received a unanimous, final site plan approval Tuesday from the city’s municipal council, reports The Times Herald.
The proposed 208-unit Kennedy Kenrick Senior Living development from Hallman Retirement Neighborhoods of Pottstown includes 46 units and a community center, two-multi-family buildings with a total of 96 units, 28 townhouses and two single-family homes for residential staff. The community will be age-restricted to residents age 55 and older.
Plans also call for the development of a 36-unit building and a two-story retail/medical office building to be built on campus.
The community will be located at Johnson Highway and Arch Street in Norristown. Hallman Retirement Neighborhoods expects to break ground in Spring 2014, according to an attorney representing the company in the The Times Herald article.
Virginia Planning Commission OKs Plans for $24 Million Senior Living Project
Virginia’s Suffolk Planning Commission on Tuesday recommended approval for a $24 million senior living development, reports Suffolk News-Herald.
The Harbour View Aged Care Facility will be owned by Roanoke-based Smith/Packett and operated by Harmony Senior Services, also based in Roanoke.
The 175-unit community will include a theater, café, exercise room, library, computer room and beauty parlor, as well as a private courtyard for the community’s memory care unit.
In addition to memory care services, the Harbour View building will also feature independent and assisted living.
The rezoning request under consideration will change the zoning from commercial to institutional zoning.
The request for the proposed community will go before the City Council on December 18, 2013.

Allegro Senior Living Breaks Ground on New Luxury Community in Florida
St. Louis-based Allegro Senior Living announced Thursday that it has broken ground on its ninth senior housing community.
The community, located in a country club residential setting in West Boynton Beach, FL., will offer 136 units with a total of 147,000-square-feet.
While the community will primarily cater to independent residents, there will also be separate wings to accommodate assisted living and memory are services.
A company specializing in the development and operation of luxury senior housing communities throughout Florida, Allegro’s newest community in Boynton Beach will embody a boutique hotel experience for its residents.
Amenities include a speciality designed spa, elegant dining options, concierge service, as well as the latest in theater and wellness opportunities, Allegro stated in a release.
West Palm Beach, Florida-based Leo A Daly provided architectural design for the project, while Boca Raton-based Kaufman Lynn Construction provided construction services.
The community is scheduled to open in late 2014. Development costs were not disclosed.

Engel Burman Group Opens Welcome Center for New York AL Community
New York-based developers The Engel Burman Group announced Monday the opening of a Welcome Center at one of its assisted living communities located in Armonk, N.Y.
The Bristal at Armonk community is a three-story, 119,000-square-foot building that includes 112 assisted living residences. The residences comprise of eight “friendship suites,” 36 studios, 56 one-bedroom and six two-bedroom residences. Development cost of the community is approximately $30 million.
The community is scheduled to open in 2014 and will feature amenities including an elegant lobby, cinema, fitness center, salon, arts & crafts studio, bingo center, card and game room, library, wellness center, and heated outdoor pool and an activities center for visiting grandchildren.
The Bristal at Armonk is located less than an hour’s commute from New York City by car or rail, and only minutes from Westchester Airport and the Westchester Medical Center.
Mainstreet and LCS Senior Living Open New Wellbrooke Community
Mainstreet Property Group and LCS Senior Living last week opened Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville, Indiana—the latest in a series of hotel-like, service-rich communities for seniors between the two providers, reports Journal Review Online.
The 65,000-square-foot health center incorporates a hotel-like design as an intentional effort to be more hospitable to residers, their families and the rest of the community.
Wellbrooke offers 30 assisted living apartments and 70 private companion suites for those who need rehabilitation, short or long-term care.
Amenities include a fitness center, fire pit, walking trails, putting green and bocce court.
“We’re really trying to transform the way care is given to the elderly of America,” said Mainstreet CEO Zeke Turner, in the article. “To do that we’ve adopted hotel-like designs and really left all the decisions up to you. Everything is available to our residents.”
In September the two companies celebrated the grand opening of Wellbrooke of Avon located in Avon, Indiana.
Golden Pond Completes Expansion of Mass. Assisted Living
Hopkinton, Massachusetts-based Golden Pond Resident Care Corp. celebrated the grand opening of its newly expanded and renovated facility, Golden Pond Assisted Living, on November 8.
The expansion involved doubling the facility’s existing footprint to offer additional apartments and new supportive services for residents.
New construction included a new, four-story addition to the current Golden Pond building. This new addition totaled 36,000-square-feet and consisted of 33 assisted living apartments, increasing the total number of residential units to 82.
Golden Pond offers one- and two-bedroom apartment homes with fully equipped kitchens, spacious living rooms and scenic views.
Amenities include an activities room, exercise room, library, café, gardens and a walking path. The community also offers an on-campus health center, wellness programs, scheduled transportation and recreational activities.
Peabody, Mass.-based The Congress Companies served as the builder for both the original 64,500-square-foot Golden Pond facility and the newly expanded property.
The renovations and building additions were designed by Khalsa Design Inc. based in Somerville, Mass.
