Faith Morgan has begun to feel at home in her role as vicar at St. James Church in Little Worthy. She has been there for about a year now and formed friendships. She is up to her ears right now planning the 900th anniversary of St. James. Amidst the myriad activities planned, an artist has been awarded a commission to supply a painting of the church for the memorial booklet to be distributed at the celebration. The artist is found dead in her studio, and Faith is again embroiled in solving a mystery while still trying to hold things together for the celebration. Also, she has to help her sister decide what to do with their mother and her living arrangements as her mother’s Alzheimer’s is beginning to make itself more and more evident. Faith is also brought into contact with Ben Shorter, her former boyfriend, as he is the lead on the murder investigation. No stress for this woman, right? I did like how the author included Faith’s struggles toward certain people, the stresses of life and her subsequent prayers for God’s guidance.
There were about three swear words in the book for which readers should to be aware. There was also one scene where Faith states that it isn’t her job to question someone’s morality, which I disagree with. I think it is part of a pastor’s job to guide and point out to his flock when they stray from Scripture. That being said though these two issues didn’t detract from the enjoyment of the mystery aspect of the book, which was well done. I am enjoying watching Faith and Ben’s interaction and how her reactions and thinking have changed and continue to change somewhat as she is now a vicar and not on the police force anymore. I continue to become more and more enamored of the congregation of St. James and look forward to the next installment in the series to see what the “regulars” are up to next.
