Kindergarten students explain what love means to them

Mason Trelow is ready to launch his paper airplane in a contest between the kindergarten boys and girls to see whose love was on target. The students threw their airplanes at a heart shaped target on the ground. The team that came closest to the target was given a point. In in the end, the teams agreed that the real winner was love.

Several years ago a post on the Internet asked young children their thoughts on love. The Democrat spoke to students in Randi Sparks’ kindergarten class at Washington Elementary and Greta Siegel’s kindergarten class at Smithton Elementary to find their definition of love.
Smithton Elementary
Landon Eastep: I love my family because we eat supper together and they give me toys. I really love my mom’s macaroni and cheese.
Kiley Gaylord: Love is a family because they love me too. I love my mommy and daddy because we give each other hugs and kisses before I go to bed at night.
Maya Stevens: Love is when people love you. People love you when you are in a family. The best part is because you are not alone.
Mason Trelow: I love my mom. I don’t know why I do I just love her. I love my sister and my dad too. And my cat.
Carter Riley: Love is where people really love me and care about me. They care about me when I get hurt. They give me a Band-Aid or something. My mama kisses it and makes it better.
Keylen Hernandez: Love is when mommy and daddy kiss me. They read with me too.
Trevor Thorne: Love means being nice. People give me hugs when they are nice. I love my mommy and daddy and baby brother. He’s 3.
Cierra Sprinkle: It means you love someone. You get to spend time with them and play games with them. We play Uno and draw pictures.
Cameron Krause: Love is when you like somebody. They hug you when they like you. They say thank you a lot too when you do something nice.
Hayden Wittman: I think love means a bald eagle because it’s a symbol of the American flag. I love playing outside at recess too. I love to use markers. I love my mommy and daddy too. Sometimes people can be mean but I just have to be nice to them.
Aiden Taber: Mommy and daddy love me because they give me hugs. When they have to do something important, they can’t play with me but after that, they always have time to play with me.
Brooklyn Edwards-Henderson: Love is like when you love your mommy. I tell her I love her a lot. She tells me she loves me back.
Washington Elementary
Zayne Dotson: That’s a tricky one. It means you love someone. I always write things with love on it to my mommy. I love her because I have a cute baby sister. I love my grandpa because he takes me fishing.
Lamonte Turner: I love my mama and dada and my little brother.
Zoey Arbuckle: It means you love someone forever. I love Zane (Dotson) because he is my friend. I love my mommy and my daddy because they take care of me.
Josie Hockaday: It means you love someone because that means they want to love you and take care of you and play with you and babysit you. It means you are someone’s friend.
Jameson O’Connell: It means I love you. If you love someone, they say I love you too. I love my mom, dad, brother and sister. I love them because my sister helps me follow directions and she always does the right thing.
Nathan Adams: I don’t know but I love my mom and dad. They do lots of things. I can’t name them but I just know they love me.
Abby Bergman: It means Valentines. I love my mom and dad. They play with me and they help me make breakfast. I love my cat too. His name is George. I love George because he curls up in my lap and sleeps.
Alex Pedraza: I love my mom because she takes care of my home and my brothers and sisters. She takes care of all of us and I love my brothers and sisters too.
Lason Thompson: It means I love my grandmas and grandpas because they take me out to get toys and food. When my big brother is mean, sometimes I ask him to stop and he says he is sorry and hugs me. I love him too.
Yevnica Verbovskiy: When you love someone, you want to hug him but you think you can’t but then you run and hug him. That makes me happy.
Marino Quiroz Smith: Love means if you love someone you can make them a card or you can help them because then I feel good and so do they. You can give them something too.
Latham Rohrer: It means you love another. It means you help them clean their room for them because that’s kind. I love my mom and my two grandmas because they have toys and they let me play with their toys and they play with me.
Ciera Williams: It means when you are kind to people. I love Nayesi, my sister, and I always play with her outside. She likes to push me on the swing; that’s why we play together. I’m nice to my sister because she loves me.
Jimi Ray: It means hearts and kisses. I love my mom and dad very, very much. Love means hugs and chocolate for Valentines for mom and dad.
Emma Gullett: Love means sharing things with your friends. It means sharing pencils at my table. Love is when you miss your family when they aren’t with you. Love is when you do things for other people and be nice to them. Love is when you have a bunch of people and you share at Thanksgiving.
Madison Intelmann: It means you love someone and it means you love your cats and dogs. My two cats died because they were sick. I love my dog a lot. Love means you love your mom and dad because my mama gives me toys and gives me things. I love my daddy too. He gives me toys too. Love means you love your family.
Lily Blaha: I love my daddy because he always loves me. Every time I’m good, he gives me hugs and kisses and he is nice to me all the time.
