TVFCU is proud to participate in the annual Buckner International’s Shoes for Orphan Souls donation drive! TVFCU branches are serving as drop off locations for the Shoes for Orphan Souls donations during the entire month of August, August 1-31, 2016. We have drop off boxes in our branch lobbies for the general public to donate new shoes, socks and shoelaces.
Athletic shoes and socks are encouraged because this is the only pair of shoes most of these children receive throughout the year. Older boys are the most overlooked because the general public tends to forget that these children are orphaned through age 18. Boys that age wear large shoe sizes, so if you want to participate and are in doubt about what size to purchase, sizes up to 14 are encouraged so that older boys have shoes.
“Several years ago I heard about Shoes for Orphan Souls from a local radio station, 88.9 Moody Radio. I thought it to be a worthy cause and felt compelled to personally get involved. When ads began running for drop off locations, it seemed to me that the purpose of the campaign mirrored what TVFCU represents “People Helping People.” Since we have a large presence in the community, it seemed fitting that we could serve as drop off locations. After our first year, I learned we have several staff members that have been personally involved in the campaign over the past several years, ” shares Donna M., TVFCU employee.
Buckner gives every child a pair of shoes no matter what age. If the size needed is not donated, Buckner purchases what is needed. Donors can make monetary donations by mail to Shoes for Orphan Souls, 5405 Shoe Drive, Mesquite, TX 75149 or by visiting the website www.buckner.org.
