See Four Transformed Alleyways…
Experience new art and technology installations featured in four Downtown alleyways at Party in the Passageways on August 24th, at 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Meet the design teams from Chattanooga, New York and Australia as you stroll the alleyways and enjoy music, interactive activities and local food and drink along the way.
TVFCU is proud to sponsor the Passageways project! The alley next to the TVFCU Downtown Chattanooga Branch will feature the Passageway installation titled Stargaze, located at 715 Market Street. This winning installation was created by a team from Brooklyn, New York. The installation will include a sound component from collaborating with local Art 120 and Studio Mindstride.
The community is invited to this free, kickoff event and encouraged to check-in at 5:30pm in Miller Plaza. You will receive a map of the alleyway locations, a suggested route and a list of activities along the way. In addition to the installation designers being on site to explain the creative concept behind each installation, the activities in each alleyway will showcase how these urban spaces can be animated in the future through art, culture and community engagement. Activities include a yarn bombing project hosted by the Chattanooga Public Library, buskers performing live music from SoundCorps, a performance by the Chattanooga Ballet and opportunities to ride Art 120’s art bikes. Attendees can also catch a show from Chattanooga bluegrass icons Randy Steele and Friends in the last alley on Broad Street from 6-8:30pm. Local beer from Odd Story Brewing Company, Hutton and Smith Brewing Company and Chattanooga Brewing Company will be featured in the alleyways along with light hors d’oeuvres from The Bitter Alibi and seating from CBI Chattanooga. The party will continue until 8:30pm. Please RSVP and get your tickets here.
Passageways, a joint project of River City Company and AIA Tennessee, started with an international call to architects, artists and designers to reimagine urban alleyways. Five installations for four alleyways were selected and will be built in the coming weeks. Check out the winners and their installation locations at passagewayschattanooga.com.
Each installation will be in place for 6-12 months, and we are committed to programming these spaces during that time frame. Be on the lookout for more opportunities and events in these alleyways soon.
Passageways would not be possible without the help of our partners and supporters at The Lyndhurst Foundation, The Benwood Foundation, Cogent Studio, Causeway, Mozilla, the National Science Foundation, Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union and ArtsBuild. Additional thanks goes to the many building owners and businesses surrounding Passageways installations for your participation.
