Huda Kattan is one of my absolute favourite modern day beauty gurus. I have been obsessing over her YouTube channel for years and used to buy everything she recommended! So you can imagine my excitement when she announced the launch of her Lip Contour pencils!

Obviously as it is Huda Beauty, they sold out super fast, I had friends trying to get them for me in Dubai but had no luck so I thought I would wait fir the craze to die down a bit. Then on Huda’s Snapchat I saw that she announced the launch of a Liquid Matte lipstick! Claiming to have the ultimate staying powder, that velvet feel and in the most iconic shades. I saw a preview of the packaging and fell instantly I love! I was literally counting down the days til launch but once again they sold out everywhere! Then Cult Beauty came to the rescue and I placed my order! As I had time to do my research on shades I ordered Gossip Girl, Trophy Wife and Bombshell in the Lip Contour pencils and the Liquid Mattes.

The packaging did not disappoint, I love it! The shade match on the packaging is pretty spot on too! The Lip Contours are well presented and I love the formulation. They glide on do smoothly and they are also easy to blend. They have the ability to give a very pouty lip which I love! From the shades I got, Trophy Wife is lovely but a bit too plum for everyday in my opinion. Bombshell is a great nude but too light for my skin tone. Gossip Girl again is too much for everyday. The great thing here though is that you can just mix the shades to get the exact colour you want which is fab! They also have lasting power, lasting through pretty much a whole day at work.

The shade offering on the Liquid Matte lipsticks is exactly the same which makes it so easy to match up the matching Lip Contour. With the Liquid Mattes you can also mix them to achieve the shade you want. I did find that the shade Gossip Girl did not have consistency when applying. When first applied the Liquid Matte does have that velvet like feel on your lips and dries quickly to become matte. I was really disappointed with the staying power though, this lasted a couple of hours at the most. After this it starts to flake off (pet hate!) and it just looks awful. If you apply another layer it becomes all uneven and looks lumpy on your lips. This is just with drinking not even eating!

I was so determined for the Huda Beauty Liquid Matte lipsticks to work for me. I mean everyone is raving about them! I tried them for a couple of weeks but by lunch time my lips looked a mess and I would just apply my trusted Bobbi Brown Art stick which lives in my handbag and seems to have the ability to deal with flakey leftovers from another lipstick. Maybe it’s me who knows, I mean a lot of people swear by the NYX matte cream lipsticks and I don’t like them either.

For the price tag and hassle of ordering I’d much rather stick with the Bourjois Rouge Velvet Edition liquid lipsticks. They really do last and you can just apply layer upon layer. I absolutely love the packaging though and could have lived with having to mix shades to get my perfect shade but the fact that it flakes off after just a couple of hours? I cannot live with that. I don’t like giving negative feedback but on this occasion I am so disappointed and I know so many people are still pondering on weather to place the order or not. They personally do not work for me but I do have friends who love them.

I still adore Huda and I do like the Lip Contour pencils (even though they are a tad pricey!) but I still went ahead and ordered the shade Cheerleader. I’m also still already obsessing over the new Huda Beauty Rose Gold palette already…
