The most pragmatic trend exposed at New York is without any doubt a shirt dress. Our absolute favourite is a Hugo Boss blue linen dress with pockets. Worn with belt and a tiny handbag, it's perfect for a day-out.

These dresses are good for autumn, spring and summer. Truly versatile, they can be an everyday wear and a statement piece. Our take is that a shirt dress is an affordable laid back luxe garment. Check out the pieces by Secret d'Or designers: a subtle and ultra-modern hand-finished dress by Benjamin Antz-Recalt, an austere and practical collar-dress by The Meed, and a girlie sleeveless dress in blue by Elpizo.

Going back to NYFW trends, it seems like our new best friend is going to be a midi skirt. Or, to be honest, any kind of skirt as there were lots of maxis (Tadashi Shoji, Michael Kors, Gary Graham) at the catwalks as well. Minis were a minority yet present (Marc by Marc Jacobs).

Color-wise the New York fashion scene was mostly black, pink and blue. What's even more distinctive, the blossom-mood prevailed: Badgley Mischka made flowers the epicentre of its collection of evening dresses. Michael Kors' V-cut narrow-fitting in the waist dresses featured large peonys. In the meantime, Oscar de la Renta and Carolina Herrera were second to none in using flowerprints. While Oscar de la Renta played with broderie anglaise - a fine decor element, Carolina Herrera chose classics. Her lemon jacket suits recalled Chanel silhouettes, reworked for a modern elegant young lady making her way in the city.

Zac Posen has put forward three colours only: black, white and red. To finalise the impression of a strong, self-confident women, use red lipstick and pointed shoes. By the way, the latter was noticed in many other NYFW collections such as Victoria Beckham, Oscar de la Renta and Michael Kors.

And last but not least, I would like to say a few words about Marc by Marc Jacobs collection as it strikingly differed from the rest. Latex leggins, polka dots on yellow, tender pink and baby blue background, heavy boots, crazy handbags and creative hairstyles. This collection was remarkable for its London rave spirit which actually made a smooth transition into the London Fashion Week that we are expecting to start this Friday.
