Queen Anne

My husband has borrowed a folding table and chairs for our Christmas party and returned them a few days later from a neighbor just down the street. We’ve gifted kitchen supplies, techie gadgets, clothing, and just about anything we no longer need. We post it on Buy Nothing Queen Anne, and within a few minutes one of our neighbors will comment that they’d like to be “considered” as the one we select to “gift” it to.

Last night, I wanted to make Cauliflower Fried Rice for my husband but realized we need a new wok to do that. Ours is worn out and doesn’t work well anymore. So I posted this on BNQA.  Within three minutes one of my neighbors offered for me to borrow her wok.  Inside of an hour she had left the wok on her front door step, and I picked it up a few blocks from my house.  I made dinner with my neighbors wok, and it was such an amazing feeling of community.  I felt connected.

The Cauliflower Fried Rice turned out amazing!  And it’s all because this beautiful wok our neighbor let us borrow.

Cauliflower Fried Rice

Totally yum!  The wok had the surface area to create a crunchy texture on the bottom that makes fried rice so yummy!

Cauliflower Bowl

Here’s the recipe!

Cauliflower Fried Rice

1 head of cauliflower

1 tsp. sesame oil

1 large chicken breast cut into bite size pieces

3 garlic cloves minced

1 tbsp. fresh minced ginger

1 large carrot diced

1 cup of frozen green peas

2 large eggs

pinch of pepper

3 tbsp. soy sauce

1/2 fresh lime

green onions for garnish

optional: Sambol Oleleck Asian hot sauce YUM!!!

Cut the florets from the cauliflower and pulse in the food processor until it looks like rice. Using a clean dish towel, ring out the excess water. Don’t miss this step. It will help your rice crisp up when it fries.

To a wok over medium-high heat add the sesame oil. When it’s hot add the chicken and cook through about five minutes. Add the garlic and ginger and cook another minute. Add the carrots and cook 2 or 3 more minutes. Add the peas.

Make a hole in the middle of the pan by pushing everything to the side. Crack both eggs in center. When they begin to cook stir everything together.

Add the pepper, soy sauce, and fresh lime. Garnish with green onions and Sambol!!
