What: The Web Manager/ Drupal Developer is a full-time, professional staff position at Seattle Central College.
Reporting to the Director of Communications and Marketing, the Web Manager/Drupal Developer develops and implements a strategic vision for an effective web presence that enhances service and communication for prospective/current students, faculty, staff and stakeholders of Seattle Central College.
This position’s responsibilities include the design, function and governance of the website, providing technical expertise and hands-on implementation. The college is in the process of migrating its website to a Drupal CMS platform. Because of this, applicants must have strong Drupal development experience. Drupal installation experience is preferred.
She/he will also supervise a web designer and work collaboratively with other departments across campus to provide web content and services. This position is expected to work hands-on to ensure the website is developed and implemented properly.
This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by AFT-Washington and is subject to union shop provisions.
Responsibilities:
Develop a strategic vision for the website in concert with the Director of Communications.
Use Drupal skills and experience to lead the transition of the college’s website to a Drupal Content Management System.
Manage all aspects of the college’s web presence by coordinating its strategy, planning, maintenance and accessibility, utilizing search engine optimization, web analytics and secure coding practices.
Effectively manage intensive, long-term web development projects that incorporate engaging content, effective design and the latest technology and features to tell the Seattle Central story and enhance the college’s brand image.
Continually monitor analytics and key performance indicators to assure a positive user experience.
Serve as strong advocate for web standards and work with various college departments and divisions to ensure compliance.
Coordinate with college departments and content creators to effectively create/update website content on a regular basis.
Provide direct content oversight, including adherence to Seattle Central College’s brand, messaging hierarchy, style guide, and experience, including standards, tone and voice.
Working with the Director, develop and manage a website editorial calendar and create editorial assignments accordingly.
Integrate social networking functions into the website.
Create and maintain college-wide web procedures and guidelines.
Manage relationships with vendors and contractors as needed.
Use task forces, focus groups and other venues to gather input from stakeholders.
Participate on committees, task forces and other groups as assigned.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in computer science, technology, web design/development or a related field.
5 years of relevant website development and management experience.
Experience with and migrating websites to Drupal, including the ability to create custom themes and modules.
Proven project management experience, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with competing priorities.
Experience with the following “Back-End” technologies: PHP, SQL, MySQL
Working knowledge of UNIX
Understanding of DNS
Understanding of secure communication and encryption techniques
Familiarity with website design:
Design portfolio that demonstrates understanding of clean, modern design techniques
Solid skills in UI design and UX
Proficient with Adobe CS
An eye for design detail and knowledge of user-centered design principles
Familiarity with the following “Front-End” technologies:
HTML, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery
Solid understanding of Bootstrap and/or Foundation
Working knowledge of CSS preprocessors
Solid and demonstrated ability in responsive design
Knowledge of relational databases and experience developing database-driven web applications, preferably in a SQL server environment.
Demonstrated experience working effectively with persons from diverse backgrounds, such as racial, ethnic, religious, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic, as well as physical and learning disabilities.
Strong interpersonal communication and collaboration skills, with an emphasis on excellent customer service; ability to establish effective working relationships with a wide variety of people.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to work independently, problem solve, take initiative and use good judgment.
Experience in higher education or complex organization with multiple stakeholder groups.
Experience with redesigning websites.
Experience with branding principles and best practices.
Experience with Search Engine Optimization and website analytics.
Experience implementing content management systems.
Experience managing and supervising a team by providing both technical and creative leadership.
Experience with legacy application support, including MSSQL, C#, vbscript, classic asp and asp.net.
Familiarity with ADA compliance requirements.
Familiarity with photo editing and usage.
Experience managing budgets.
