As a Systems Engineer working on Amazon’s Infrastructure Systems team, your mission is to provide secure, available, scalable and operationally excellent infrastructure services.
You will build, monitor and manage critical infrastructure services on fleet of Linux servers, for use by Amazon retail website, Kindle and Amazon Web Services (AWS). For example, you will build and manage external DNS services that front every Amazon services. You will design and develop solutions for monitoring and alarming the essential services. You will identify and deliver automation improvements in maintaining large fleet of servers and write scripts to implement innovative solutions. You will watch for external threats to the critical services and take preventive actions toward managing availability and scalability.
You will be working on highly visible projects that directly impact the availability and performance of services across the entire Amazon business. Your work will be fun and challenging every day and you will be working with about every other engineering and operations team at Amazon. You will be looked upon as expert on Linux server administration by internal customers of Amazon.
The most successful candidates for this role will have strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, strong coding skills, systems architecture and design, great communication skills and a desire to tackle the complex problems of scale. We are particularly interested in system administrators and UNIX programmers familiar with aspects of running web services at scale. Deep networking knowledge and UNIX internals are also highly desirable.
Minimum 5 years of Linux/Unix System Administration experience
B.A./B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent experience
Expertise at programming in a scripting language (Perl preferred, Python)
Experience in writing automation scripts and self-service tools
Experience working in mission-critical, operations support environment
Strong Experience in network diagnostic tools
Experience in TCP/IP and routing protocols
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Experience in BIND and maintaining DNS service in a large organization
Experience in Agile/Scrum framework/methodologies
Ability to work in fast-paced environment
Certification in Linux/Unix Administration
