Because Houston is such a large city, lots of job opportunities are available. College students can find thousands of open part-time, seasonal, and temporary positions in Houston using different resources.

UH Career Services

The University of Houston’s online career services can be a big help in finding the right job. Here, Career Services can assist both students and alumni in their path to success.

Career Services has an On-Campus Recruiting program that lets students and alumni talk to company representatives face-to-face. Companies conduct interviews throughout the school year with all students and graduates, regardless of their major. In order to apply for these interviews, the individual must be registered and have an accepted resume in the Cougar Pathway system. The calendar provided by Career Services lists all career-related events happening at the university.

Students can also benefit from the University Career Advisory Network, internship programs, career counseling, and vocational assessments.

Universities also hire many student workers for a number of jobs, such as working at a front desk, as an office assistant, or as tech support. At the University of Houston, students can work at the student center. Students can also apply to work at the M.D. Anderson Library. It is also possible to work at the Houston Department of Intercollegiate Athletics as a student.

Packaging and Delivery Jobs

Working at a company that packages and delivers items can be rewarding as well. Packing and delivery jobs can include packaging handler, couriers or delivery drivers, and customer service center support.

Jobs in Customer Service

Customer service is a large industry with a wide variety of jobs to choose from. If being friendly and helping people is a strength, working is customer service could be the right thing to do. This can include working in healthcare, hotels, and stores.

Paid Internships

While an internship is not exactly a job, they do provide experience suitable for students’ careers and are sometimes paid for it. Internships also do not last long, which could work great for busy students. Many online job databases allow users to search for paid internships, such as Indeed, SimplyHired, and Internships.

Other Options

If none of these sound like the right job, there are other ways to find positions that are appropriate for college students. U.S.News has a page just for college students and graduates of University of Houston. It lists both jobs and internships that are available, and different filters can be used to narrow down the search. Both GrooveJob and SnagAJob feature open positions in Houston, and these job listings can be sorted through employer, popularity, industry, and more.
