PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- From Kittery to the Canadian Maritimes, a water trail has been leading boaters to Maine's islands for 25 years.
The Maine Island Trail Association creates a guidebook for members to navigate to 200 sites along 375 miles of coast.
According to Executive Director Doug Welch, the guide helps boaters know which islands are open to the public, and what kind of activities are allowed there.
The MITA held an Small Boaters' Conference and 25th Anniversary Celebration at the Portland Yacht Services Complex in Portland Saturday, with exhibitions, presentations, and demonstrations.
Individual membership is $45 for one year, but on Saturday, the MITA was offering a $20 discount.
