Diving Phuket this summer?

Phuket is not always the first choice for divers during the summer. The Similans National park is closed and everyone’s perception of the weather is gloomy……..this is not all true!

The Similans in the summer

True, Similan Liveaboards are not running, the National Park is closed until November. Not only is it illegal for boats such as MV Scuba Adventure to run there, it is definitely not a safe time to visit! One day the weather can mean there are flat seas and beautiful blue skys and then without warning this can change to rough conditions due to the southwest monsoon. Madness! Please do not even attempt to find trips to take you there at this time of year!

The weather during Phuket Summer

The weather is not all bad during the summer! The “rainy season” or “low season”is a bad choice of name. We can get a few day of rain, mainly consisting of flash-flood downpours in the afternoon or evening but rarely do we get continual drizzle lasting for days! It is hot, sunny and humid most of the season, not a problem if you are scuba diving as the ocean is a great place to cool down! The fast and furious rain is not a problem for scuba divers either, one guarantee with diving Phuket….you are going to get wet!!!

No swimming from the beaches !

Scuba diving Phuket is the safest way to enjoy the Andaman Ocean at this time of year, if you are planning a beach holiday then please make it exactly that and stay on the beach! On many days during the summer, red flags are flying on the beaches of the West Coast of Phuket. These are not representing a beach party or a carnival day….. red means danger……. please please please do not swim off these beaches when you see these.

Enjoy the ocean from the comfort of a dive boat. This will take you away from the currents and huge waves of of the beaches meaning you get to dive and relax in the ocean.

Snorkelling in the summer

These days are great for snorkellers too, our trained staff and PADI Instructor’s will be present all day on the boat to guide you whilst diving and snorkelling to get the best from your day out.

Never dived before?

This is not a problem. Join Scuba Cat for a PADI Discover Scuba Dive on board MV Scuba Fun. You will be able to fully experience the joys of diving Phuket without having to step into a classroom!

PADI Courses

If you would like to get a PADI certification during your stay in Phuket, this is a great time to do this too. Any PADI courses with Scuba Cat Diving are eligible for discount and special giveaways during the summer. PADI Open Water Courses and PADI Advanced Courses are also available to coincide with our South Thailand Liveaboard trips on board MV Scuba Adventure.
