Not even two weeks into May, we can already boast 30 adoptions! We saw a lot of families this weekend, and hope everyone had a wonderful Mother’s Day- whether you’re the mama of a human baby or a fur baby! Let’s send a shout out to the dads while we’re at it! We had a wonderful week here, and hope you did too.

The week started with a gentleman taking home a gentleman kitty! Sunflare was having a rough go of it here at the shelter. Though he would make occasional attempts to meet people, he found the shelter overwhelming, and often tucked himself away in a cubby. Despite what some may calla  poor showing, Sunflare made quite an impression on his adopter, who quickly realized his potential! we’re very happy for these two, and hope to see pictures of Sunflare settled into his new life very soon.

Wonderful Deltron was admitted to Tree House mid-February this year in pretty rough shape. Pulled from CACC with a myriad of injuries, Deltron needed lots of care. With a bite wound above his hind leg that had turned into an abscess, our vet was able to drain the wound in surgery and put in a port to allow for a speedy recovery. While in surgery, it was noted that Deltron had BB pellets in his chest as well. Fortunately though, the cruelty and hard life he experienced on the streets was not enough to damper his big heart! Deltron was a lovable figure to staffers and volunteers alike! After a few weeks Deltron had recovered and was on the adoption floor at our Uptown location! He was making the “short list” of nearly every adopter that met him, but it was Saturday that Deltron finally met his new family. A mother, along with her two daughters, fell completely in love with the big guy, and we are so thrilled that Deltron is spent Mother’s Day with a loving family!

Please rise for the adoption of John Adams and Thomasina Jefferson! It was only fitting that these two cuties came to Tree House shortly before President’s Day. We have watched them grow from very shy little kittens into much more confident and outgoing young adults! The poor siblings were plagued with upper respiratory and Eye infections that kept them in ISO for a very long time. Much like their namesakes, they persevered, always kept a positive attitude, and didn’t lose their sweet demeanor (or super smart tabby faces)! John Adams is the more outgoing and sillier of the two. He loves lots of TLC in the form of pets. In the right mood, he might even curl up on your lap! Thomasina is a little more serious than her brother. She like to “pretend” that she is shy. She can be a little skittish, but the second you turn your back, she’ll be right there rubbing up against your leg, demanding pets! A nice couple visited us looking for their first cat. They both had grown up with cats, but hadn’t had one of their own. They were very torn between adopting one cat or two. They made the unanimous decision that the Presidential Kittens were the perfect choice! In fact, they’re already planning a very presidential birthday party for the duo (they turn one next month)! John and Thomasina marched right into their carrier and were very ready to settle into civilian life.

Po has been a fixture at Tree House for the past three years. He was a friendly stray found in the Logan Square neighborhood. He’s our gentle giant, who has been a friend to all of the cats in the Wet Food Only room. He doesn’t have a mean bone in his body! He could frequently be found snuggling up with another cat or hanging out on the top of the cat tree. Po has a very chill demeanor and a sensitive soul. He was often overlooked by adopters because he comes across as being aloof and is only playful and cuddly on his terms. When the moment strikes him, though, Po loves to play with the wand toy and will chase a ball around, as well.

One of our caretakers has been planning to adopt Po for a very long time! She felt bad that Po had been here for so long. She loved his personality and adorable cow cat markings. She needed to wait until she moved into a cat friendly apartment to make Po part of her family. The day finally arrive, and she was prepared to take him home! For those keeping track, Po’s departure makes Adon the largest cat at Tree House! We’re not necessarily sure that’s an honor, but come visit him anyway.

Jelly Roll Morton was named after the great Jazz pianist and composer. Just like his namesake, Jelly Roll was very laid back. He enjoyed stretching out and spending a lazy afternoon lounging on the floor of the Sanctuary room. He has the softest coat of fluffy tabby fur complete with the most handsome and slightly pointy face that makes him look more like a wise owl than a cat. Jelly Roll takes everything in stride and nothing ever seemed to bother him! An awesome couple came back to look for a companion for their other (former) Tree House kitty, Woldred. Although they met all of our great options, Jelly Roll made a lasting impression with his relaxed demeanor and laissez faire attitude. They knew that Jelly Roll was the purr-fect fit for Woldred. Sweet Jelly Roll Morton had no issues going into the carrier. In fact, he hung out and helped his new owners with the paper work.

Poor Lone Ranger spent most of his time at Tree House fighting stool issues and an eye infection. He was always a sweetheart and could never get enough pets! He was found wandering the streets with a bloody paw by a Good Samaritan who brought him to Tree House. Several weeks ago an equally awesome couple was looking for their first cat. They wanted a very cuddly and playful cat. They met all the possibilities at Uptown, but no one seemed right. They visited with all of our young adult cats at Bucktown and fell in love with the sweet, snuggly and practically perfect Lone Ranger! They patiently waited for his eye to clear up. The couple diligently visited him several times a week until they were able to bring him home today. As fast as you can say, “Hi-ho Silver,” he was whisked off to his forever home!

Cliona also came to Tree House as friendly stray with an injured leg. This cute perma kitten couldn’t get enough attention. While recovering from her spay surgery, she had to wear the dreaded cone of shame, which made her look even more adorable! She demanded that everyone who passed by her cage gave her extra TLC. She wasn’t content with just pets; instead, she preferred to jump into your arms and snuggle up! This silly little lady liked playing with the other cats or hanging out by herself. A nice man came to Tree House looking for a cat to be a companion for him and his son’s young adult cat. All of our cats tried to impress, but sweet Cliona won him over by being her confident, lovable self! she marched right and snuggled up to him while he was filling out the application. She wouldn’t let him out of her sight as he met the other cats. He knew she was the one! He came back late this week- on her one month shelter anniversary!- and darling Cliona pranced right into the carrier!

Jojo Guadalupe and Lupe Guadalupe were a sweet pair of sisters who had been unfortunately returned. Luckily, they didn’t stay here long! The lovely, stoic pair were scooped up this weekend! Their roommate, Scarlet Jo, also found her forever home with a sweet and funny family. Sweetie Poo went home with first time adopters who are so excited to have a kitty companion! Another litter of kittens came and went in about five minutes: Dew Berry and Buffalo Berry, adopted together, and Sugar Berry (off to be buds with another cat at home), we wish you the best! Another set of kitten siblings were adopted by a friend of Tree House! Chorizo and Sofrita are now as home with their new family, and another pair of kitties to snuggle with!

Finally, we bid farewell to two cats from Sequoia colony. First, the amazing Zeke was scooped up by a fantastic lady. This big lug was like Sunflare- he longed for attention, but didn’t quite know how to function in a shelter environment. We’re so glad he can relax and get the lovin’ he deserves. Then we said goodbye to Velcro (pictured)! This talkative, affectionate Animal Assisted Therapy cat got super lucky! A mother and son pair came in looking for a kitty. The son would be moving out soon, and taking his cat with him. For Mother’s Day, he wanted to make sure his mom got the perfect cat! She was prepared, too, knowing what she wanted in a feline friend. It was clear from the start that Velcro was her boy! He’s a diabetic cat, so we hoped that wouldn’t be a deal breaker. The adopter was totally accommodating- her biggest concern was what kid of treats she could still give him! Her son splurged and bought her the silver adoption package, and they were on their way!

We’re so happy for all the new families. Take care!
