Love is the gift that keeps on giving, and many of our lucky residents will enjoy that gift-  in their new homes this holiday season! We sent home over 30 cats, just in time for a happy new year.

Lucky Charmer snuggled her way into a lovely adopter’s heart this week when she visited the Bucktown Branch for the second time. The adopter wanted to wait until her family was in town to help her make the tough final decision of which kitty to call her own.The stakes were high and many a cat was in the running, but petite, sweet Lucky Charmer won the hand. We expect that these two are already inseparable!

Quinoa & Pilaf were then scooped up by a doting family who also visited this week. They made the trek to our Bucktown Branch from the south side of the city to meet and greet kittens for adoption. We discussed the ins-and outs of cat care, and the family excitedly made all of the preparations between last night and this afternoon. They arrived, carrier in hand to whisk their newest additions home for the holidays, and we couldn’t be happier for them!

Peaches aren’t in season, but were been flying off the shelves (so to speak) this weekend! After saying goodbye to Sam Peach, Marvin Peach, Tammy Peach, Jackie Robinson Peach, and Georgia Peach in the last couple weeks, the final three from the litter have been adopted too! A great family fell head over heels in love for Diana Peach, and mere moments later, were enamored by Diana’s good kitten buddy Patches McGillicuddy. Aretha Peach and Otis Peach, an adorable bonded pair, were adopted together by a very sweet couple who were so thrilled by their new additions, they stayed at the shelter all day! Patches’ sibling, Midnight McGillicuddy was scooped up with her new bestie, Madchen.

Handsome, mild-manner Roycroft was the next lucky boy to be adopted by a couple who met him over the weekend. Since we were waiting on final clearance from the veterinarian, we placed him on Medical Adoption Hold. Roycroft passed his exam today with flying colors! Never far from his new adopters thoughts, they arrived on the dot this afternoon to sign papers and bring their boy home. The adopters were first time pet owners, and we couldn’t have picked a better cat to introduce them to the joys of cat companionship. Sweet, loving Roycroft will undoubtedly make the perfect pet for his new mom and dad! The hilarious, curious bonded sister duo, Alliquippa and Sacagawea were also on Medical Hold at our Uptown headquarters. A lovely couple had visited a while ago, and became smitten with the pair. However, they would be taking a holiday trip, and wanted to wait until they were hope to adopt. After a very long week, they were back, and so excited to take these ladies home! After one last round of meds, these brave girls are off to a new world with a very loving family.

The adorable Moonraker surprised a trio of awesome kids when their mom brought him home for Christmas! The family had been visiting the adoption center for the better part of the last few days to meet cats and learn about cat care, under the guise that they’d have to wait until after the busy-ness of the holidays to adopt. The children met Moonraker, the most docile, loving, laid back boy one could imagine. He was full of purrs, headbutts, happy paws and belly flops upon first pet, so he won the kids’ affection immediately. After a series of ‘I wish we could take him,’ and ‘I wish we could have a cat,’ the children wished Moonraker well and blew him an affectionate kiss goodbye, hoping that he’d find a home soon. Today the adopter visited again to complete the necessary paperwork to make the adoption official. We knew those kiddos would get the sweetest Christmas surprise they could hope for!

Rice Chex came to Tree House late this summer with her four kitties from a shelter downstate. Her kittens were adopted in record time, but Rice Chex lingered much longer than anyone anticipated. She had a very playful, almost kitten-like side. Rice Chex was fondly referred to as Houdini because of her ability to escape through open doors virtually undetected (time outs helped cut down on her attempted escapes). Rice Chex also had a very sweet and mellow side. She loved to lounge atop the cat tree or curl up on your lap. This week, when a couple came in looking to adopt a young kitty, all the cats tried to impress, but it was Rice Chex who won them over with her sweet and spunky personality!

We were overjoyed to send home a whole bunch of lady cats who were completely over the shelter experience. For some cats, having so many roommates and visitors in the day cramp their style. Now that they’re adopted, Julie Andrews will never have to share the spotlight with another cat in her new home, and Carolla can finally relax in a calm, stable environment (we bet she becomes the cuddliest girl!). Cymbaline will be perfectly comfortable running around and exploring without having to deal with silly kittens getting in her way, while Shiloh will be happy enough to let her silliness shine through! Cayenne Cocoa, with her enormous personality and fearless attitude will enjoy total freedom in her new home. Mishu Bear, a diva in the making, was adopted by her foster mom/ staff member, and will live the life of luxury in her new/old home. We’re bursting with excitement for these girls!

Armadillo, cool as a cucumber, was adopted by a thoughtful family looking for a buddy for their former Tree House cat at home. Another staff member whisked Joey Ramone (pictured) away to his new digs, where he’s already napping with his new feline friends. Joey lived on the first floor of our Uptown location, where he gave himself his own office, and occasionally shared it with some feisty lady cats. He recently acquired hospice status due to cancer, and after careful planning, our staff member brought him home.

Also adopted this week: Ranger Bob! The Count! Lucky Strike! Ivanhoe! Gloin! Cylindra Beats! Tangent! What an incredible week!

We are overflowing with gratitude for another year of happy endings and all of the support from those people who have made this progress possible! We really wouldn’t be “Team Tree House” without it! We wish all of you a happy, healthy new year.
