UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor is everywhere right now. Hollywood movie offers have been flooding in, and of course everyone wants to fight him. The popular Irishman is hot property, without doubt.
It’s crazy to think McGregor has only been in the UFC for three years. Nobody in the history of the promotion has come so far, so quickly. That said, it all nearly came crashing down after UFC 196.
Close Shave
After being submitted by Nate Diaz at UFC 196, the Conor McGregor show came under threat of being cancelled. Of course his fame grew by the day, but a loss in the immediate rematch could have been irreparably damaging.
Diaz had come in to fight on March 5 on just 11 days notice. Replacing the injured Rafael dos Anjos in the main event, the Stockton bad boy gave a Jiu Jitsu lesson to ‘The Notorious.’ The rematch was set for UFC 202.
Back to Business
It was back to winning ways for Conor McGregor at UFC 202. Fighting once again at welterweight, the Irish striker dropped Nate Diaz three ties on the way to a majority decision win. It was a close clash for sure.
Now that McGregor was back in business, it didn’t take long for the reports of his next fight to emerge. Nate Diaz appealed for a trilogy match, but UFC president Dana White flat out denied him.
Conor McGregor vs. Eddie Alvarez
The heavily rumoured lightweight title clash will feature as the main event at UFC 205, once it’s confirmed, that is. The new era of money fights is officially here, but McGregor has revenue coming in from all angles.
Last week we reported that Conor McGregor is appearing in the new Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare game. It’s undoubtedly a huge pay day for ‘The Notorious,’ who currently holds the record as highest paid UFC fighter ever.
