We all know that T in the Park excitement is taking hold of Scotland for a mud-filled weekend. But if you absolutely refuse to put your wellies on, take the pace down a little and try these more peaceful, culture-filled events.

Summer Exhibition – Eduardo Alessandro Studios

This art exhibition shows the abundance of artistic talent and wide range of artistic styles that are present throughout the north east of Scotland. Now that’s our kind of art attack.

Music Through The Ages

This is a slightly different take on the historical exhibition. A man dressed in the style of musician for James V will tell you stories about old forms of music and instruments that were played throughout history.

Bright Ideas: The Art and Science of Light

Friday 10th-Saturday 11th, 11:30am-16:30pm, King’s Museum, University of Aberdeen, Old Aberdeen Town House, High Street, Aberdeen



An exhibition put together by the Museum Studies students at the University of Aberdeen which is designed to examine how humans interact with light, using exhibits from science and culture which relate to this interaction. Sounds like a lightbulb moment to us.

Jacobites – The Tolbooth Museum Exhibition

Friday 10th-Saturday 11th, 10:00am-17:00pm @ The Tolbooth Museum, Castle Street, Aberdeen

An exhibition focusing the 300th anniversary of the 1715 Jacobite uprising. It examines the role of the North East and Aberdeen in the Jacobite uprisings of the 18th century, a significant event in the history of Scotland.

Transmissions: Exploring The Microbial World

Friday 10th-Saturday 11th, 11:00am–17:00pm on 11th @ University of Dundee, Nethergate

This is a strange but interesting concept for an exhibition. Scientists have worked with artists to create an artistic representation of microbial life. The purpose is to explore the microbial life, diseases and resistance and how they impact the modern world. Gross, but awesome.

The New Generation Show 2015

Friday 10th-Saturday 11th, 9:30am-17:30pm @ Compass Gallery, 178 West Regent Street, Glasgow

This show presents work from many young artists from around Scotland. The source of this work are the students of the various Scottish art schools. It’s focused on three main artistic disciplines, drawing, painting and printmaking. Go young Scots!

Doris & Dolly ‘A Double D & A Wee Bit Mor’ at Oran Mor

Saturday 11th, 19:45 @ Oran Mor, Byres Road, Glasgow

A musical based on country legend Dolly Parton and all-American girl Doris Day. Features their most famous songs such as ‘Que Sera’ and ‘9 ’til 5′. You’ll be toe tapping all the way through the rest of the weekend (much to the annoyance of everyone you know.)

Open ’til Jan ’16 @ Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, 75 Belford Road, Edinburgh

A pop art showcase of work created by the world famous Roy Lichtenstein. It houses a wide selection of the unique, comic book style pop art pieces created by one of the best artists of the 20th century. Nae tinned soup to be seen here.
