For me, the best part of last night’s Oscars wasn’t finding out who won what or seeing Ellen DeGeneres send Twitter into meltdown with that selfie. No, as with every glamorous Hollywood event, my favourite part was seeing what makeup looks, brands and trends Hollywood’s most elite stars decided to go for on the night. Here’s a rundown of my favourite looks…

Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence cemented her reputation as the most relatable actress in Hollywood by rocking a strikingly simple makeup look that can be easily replicated at home. The Hunger Games star, who clumsily fell on the red carpet for the second year running, paired winged black eyeliner with a sheer, rose coloured lipstick. However, a funky, short hair style and magnificent red Dior gown kept the 23-year-old from looking too girl-next-door.

Get the look: Jennifer’s makeup artist, Ve Neill, used a host of Dior products to create her look, including Diorshow Art Pen (£23), Diorshow Iconic Overcurl Mascara (£23) and Dior Addict Fluid Stick in Mirage (new product – prices yet to be released). However, the look could definitely be recreated for less – try pairing Revlon’s Colourstay Liquid Liner (£7.99) and L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara (£10.99) with Revlon’s Lip Butter in Pink Truffle (£7.99).

Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock, on the other hand, went for full-on glamour with smokey eyes and glamorous 1940’s-inspired retro waves. Her dark eye makeup complimented her hair perfectly but it was the pop of navy blue eyeliner she wore on her waterline (which matched her strapless Alexander McQueen gown) that really jumped out at me. Sandra balanced her statement eyes and hair with natural skin and a gorgeous, soft nude lipstick.

Get the look:  bareMinerals Round the Clock Waterproof Eyeliner in Noon (£11.50) is a great dupe for Sandra’s deep navy liner. If you want to go all-out, apply a pair of Esqido’s Voila mink false eyelashes ($42) on top of smoked out eye make-up to imitate Sandra’s bold look.

Cate Blanchett

For Best Actress winner Cate Blanchett, last night was all about natural makeup and perfect, glowing skin. The star looked every inch the classy starlet as she walked the red carpet in a stunning nude Armani Prive gown, which was complimented by her soft bronze cream blush and a matte peach-pink lipstick.

Get the look: Cate’s make-up artist, Jeanine Lobell, used a variety of Armani products, including their Eyes to Kill Eyeshadow Quad in #2 Effeto Nudo (£49.50) and Sheer Blush in #10 Beige (£33) to create her timeless look. However, Cate has put her perfect skin down to her love of SK-II Facial Treatment Essence (£92), saying “I have been addicted to SK-II for well over ten years now and let’s just say some of my Blue Jasmine scenes would have been far more confronting without it!”

Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie always looks flawless on the red carpet and last night was no exception. The 38-year-old star, who wore a floor-length, embellished Elie Saab gown, rocked smokey bronze eyes with full lashes and radiant skin. She also emphasized her famous pout by lining her soft peach lips with a darker, nude liner.

Get the look:  To copy Angelina’s look, try applying All That Glitters eye shadow from MAC (£12.50) all over the lid and MAC’s Bronze eye shadow (£12.50) through the crease. Apply Ardell Demi Wispie false lashes (£5.49) and sweep an illuminating bronzer such as Too Faced Beach Bunny (£25) all over the face. Next, line the lips with Avon’s Ultraglimmerstick in Simply Spice (£3) and finish with a slick of Tom Ford’s amazing Spanish Pink lipstick (£36).

Lupita Nyong’o

Lupita Nyong’o, star of 12 Years a Slave, let her gorgeous sky blue dress do all the talking by opting for simple eye makeup with a soft, subtle shimmer to it. The stunning star also sported natural, glowing skin but modernized her look with a glossy and bold raspberry coloured lip.

Get the look: To recreate Lupita’s flawless look, apply an illuminating primer such as MONU Professional Skincare Illuminating Primer SPF15 (£22) underneath a lightweight foundation such as Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation (£35.50) or Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation (£10.99). Urban Decay’s original Naked palette has several glistening nudes which work great for understated glamour. For the statement lips, layer two coats of Revlon’s Lip Butter in Berry Smoothie (£7.99).

Emma Watson

Popular fashionista and former Harry Potter star Emma Watson took to the red carpet with contrasting hair and make-up. The young starlet sported a tousled, messy up-do with polished, classic makeup. Her natural skin was paired with a bold red lip and a clean, soft smokey eye which left her looking both classy and youthful.

Get the look: Bumble and Bumble’s Surf Spray (£21.50 for 125ml) is the perfect product if you’re looking to copy Emma’s undone hair-do. It adds body to the hair and leaves it looking wonderfully laid-back, with a matte finish.

For the makeup, apply a light base such as Boots No 7 Triple Protection Tinted Moisturiser (£12) and cover any problem areas with a longwearing concealer such as Revlon PhotoReady concealer (£6.49). The Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette (£20) is ideal for the eyes as all the shades in the compact are both natural in colour and matte in texture. Finish the look with lashings of Lancome Hypnose Doll Eyes mascara (£23) and plenty of Topshop’s signature red lipstick, Rio Rio (£8).

Margot Robbie

Last but not least on my list is Wolf of Wall Street star Margot Robbie, who was my favourite of the night. Margot looked almost unrecognizable as she walked the red carpet with her new chocolate brown hair colour and sultry, gothic make-up. Makeup artist Jenn Streicher explained: “Since Margot recently took her hair a dark chocolate brown, we wanted to do a completely new makeup look from what we’ve been doing this awards season. We went for an old Hollywood glam to compliment her black Saint Laurent strapless gown, but opted for a deep plum lip instead of your typical red.”

The starlet rocked a gorgeous deep berry lipstick and strong, perfect brows which provided excellent balance to her face. After seeing her as a blonde in Wolf of Wall Street, I’m surprised she carries off this new look so well but she looks absolutely amazing!

Get the look: If Margot has made you desperate to channel your inner goth, I’d recommend simply applying a neutral cream shadow such as MAC’s Paint Pot in Painterly (£15) all over the lid to diffuse any redness, followed by lashings of your favourite lengthening mascara (I like Armani Eyes to Kill Stretch Mascara - £25.50). For the brows, I’d use a specialist product such as the Beautiful Brows Kit (£38) from www.beautifulbrows.co.uk as it comes with stencils to help you create the perfect arch and shape. For the lips, the most important part of this look, make-up artist Jenn Streicher layered YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain in #1 Violet Edition (£25) with YSL Faux Effect Cils Crème D’Eyeliner in #5 Cherry Black (£25). Yes, you read that right…a gel eyeliner on the lips. I’ve never heard of anyone doing this before but gel eyeliners are incredibly creamy and long-wearing so I wonder if this is going to be a new trend in 2014?
