Applications are invited for CTFS-ForestGEO Research Grants to support research projects associated with the CTFS-ForestGEO network of Forest Dynamics Plots. Research projects can be basic or applied in nature and based around the social or natural sciences. Project duration can range from 3 months to 2 years. The program is intended to provide opportunities for senior researchers, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students to use existing Forest Dynamics Plots and conduct research in collaboration with scientists currently associated with these plots. The application deadline is June 15th, 2015.

Scholarship Eligibility:

Applicants must fulfills following issues-

Anyone working directly in a CTFS-ForestGEO Forest Dynamics Plot, analyzing plot data, or generating complementary data that strengthens CTFS-ForestGEO programs is eligible to apply. Priority will be given to early-career researchers, researchers with less access to other institutional funds, and to projects that include multiple plots. In rare cases, highly advanced undergraduate students will be considered. Social scientists and natural scientists are encourage to apply. Applicants of all nationalities are encouraged to apply.

What does scholarship cover?

The scholarship provides:

The majority of the CTFS-ForestGEO research grants will be in the $2,000-$15,000 range. Funding is restricted to expenses directly related to field research, laboratory research, and data analysis. Examples of eligible expenses include travel, living expenses during fieldwork, supplies, research assistance, and publication fees. Funding is not available for salary and/or fringe benefits of the applicant, indirect costs for institutional support, undergraduate or graduate study costs (e.g., tuition, text books, fees), non-project personnel, or travel to meetings.

How to apply for college scholarships:

To be considered, applicants must submit a single PDF document with all application materials by deadline to ForestGEO-at-si.edu. Applications must include, in the following order:

A CTFS-ForestGEO cover form

A research proposal (1000-word limit),

A list of project collaborators. For students and postdoctoral research, this includes an advisor. Host-country collaborators are strongly recommended.

Proof that the applicant has contacted plot Principal Investigators BEFORE submitting a proposal (e.g., through inclusion of email correspondence)

A Curriculum Vitae (limit 2 pages), including the applicant’s contact information, educational background, current and previous fellowships and grants, and research interests.

A detailed budget and project timeline. The budget should include all costs related to carrying out the proposed research. See the above Budget Information for expenses that can be included in the proposal. Include a budget justification for any unclear expenses. A timeline with the schedule for proposed research activities should be included.

Potential referees. Provide contact information for two people who could review the proposed research but are not current collaborators or advisors.
