2015 Winter Meeting Learning Experiences
Register for the 2015 Winter Meeting today! Only registered participants will be able to sign up for the Learning Experiences offered on day two of the Winter Meeting. We will send registered participants an invitation to sign-up for a learning experience later this week. Winter Meeting will be January 15-17, 2015 in Tucson, AZ.
Learning Experiences provide participants the opportunity to delve deeply into a particular topic of interest. Each Learning Experience is aligned with SRI’s guiding principles, with session offerings designed to meet the varied needs and interests of all educators. Many sessions also offer a chance to engage in a topic related to our theme, Place, and the unique setting and culture of the Tucson southwest.
Space is limited, particularly with the off-site sessions. Registered participants will be emailed a sign up form or can sign up for their Learning Experience of choice, based on availability, when checking in at the Winter Meeting in Tucson.

Winter Meeting Pre-Conferences
We are excited to be able to offer three pre-conferences ahead of this year’s Winter Meeting on January 14, 2015 in Tucson, AZ. A short description of each conference is listed here, for more complete information be sure to click on the ‘read more’ link to find the full description and a link to the registration.
Place-Based Education: The Power of Collaboration as a Planning Tool to Design Student-led Community Investigations – This half-day session will provide attendees the opportunity to examine the fundamental elements of place-based education. Participants will have time to collaborate and reflect upon these four questions: How can I better relate school to my students’ life experience? How can I help students better understand how a BIG IDEA works in the real world? How can I help students better understand this place? How can I help students better understand themselves and their possible futures? Read the complete description and register to attend here.
Understanding the U.S./Mexico Border – Participants will join middle grade students at Paulo Freire Freedom School – University in a border simulation, followed by small group discussions in the morning. The afternoon session will continue the conversation with an observation of the ‘Operation Streamline” detainee processing at the federal courthouse and a border discussion with Dr. Fernandez. Participants can choose to participate in the full day session or just the afternoon session. Read the complete description and register to attend here.
SRI Research Meeting – This half-day session brings together SRI colleagues to continue to build a coherent approach to documenting and evaluating the concepts of facilitative leadership, critical friendship, and coaching for educational equity that are at the heart of the work of the School Reform Initiative. We will share recent research related to SRI and the SRI IES grant application; share work happening in the SRI network, and learn about using the concept of ‘action space’ to understand the larger school reform context in which SRI work takes place. We hope to see you in Tucson!
