On the first day of Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week, geometric shapes, embellishments, and phosphorescence dominated the runway. Schön! visited the creative worlds of Tony Ward, On Aura Tout Vu, and Charlie Le Mindu.
Inspired by origami flowers and the structural lines of architecture, Tony Ward presented a sweet collection of floor length dresses that emphasized the legs. Playing with the sugary colors of lilac, gold, white, and blush, the haute couture designer balanced the femininity with asymmetrical geometrical shapes. Tony’s women were reminiscent of seductive water nymphs, as the music contained hints of water and chimes.

In On Aura Tout Vu’s new collection, designers André de sà Pessoa, Livia Stoianova, and Yassen Samouilov travel to the stars in their galactic, military inspired garments. The creators utilize fur for short skirts, transparent tulle for the bodice, and their signature Plexiglas crystals as the armor. The collection is athletic and affirmative in the clothing’s cuts. The most surprising element was at the very end when all the lights turned off: their glamorous crystals glowed in the dark, a perfect ending to their collection christened “Light & Shadow.”

Likewise, Charlie Le Mindu explored the seapunk movement and discovered a species of phosphorescent creatures. This hairstylist, who has created wigs for stars such as Lady Gaga, harnessed energetic colors such as neon, electric blues, and fiery reds. As models slinked their way down the runway, they embodied animals like birds with feathery plumes. One muse displayed a headpiece with pleated gills of an amphibian and another showcased locks reminiscent of jellyfish tentacles.

The first day of haute couture certainly demonstrated visions of untravelled worlds.
