Parkside CTE Open House/Local SkillsUSA Championship

Parkside High School CTE

The Career & Technology Education Department at Parkside High School will host the 31st annual local SkillsUSA Championship competition on Saturday, Feb. 7. Everyone is welcome to come out and see the competition and the many exciting things students and teachers are doing in the CTE Department. The competition will be held at Parkside High School from 8-11:30 a.m. with an awards ceremony at noon in the school auditorium. 410-677-5144.

STEM Saturday

Salisbury Middle School

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) Saturday classes will be offered throughout the 2014-2015 school year for students in grades 4/5 and 6/7/8. The next STEM Saturday will be held Feb. 7 at Salisbury Middle School, with students in grades 4-5 exploring “Science Behind Winning: Logic or Luck, Games and Probability” and middle schoolers working on “Scratch: Creating Interactive Stories and Games.” All STEM Saturdays will take place from 10 a.m.-noon.

STEM Saturdays are free for Wicomico County students in grades 4 through 8. Anyone interested in attending a STEM Saturday event must pre-register, and early registration is recommended as the courses fill up early. Superintendent’s Open Door Session

Superintendent of Schools Dr. John Fredericksen will hold a Superintendent’s Open Door Session from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18 in the Administrative Conference Room of the Board of Education Building, Mt. Hermon Road and Long Avenue, Salisbury.  Open Door Sessions will be held throughout the 2014-2015 school year to provide the opportunity for people to meet one-on-one with the superintendent. People may express concerns, offer comment, or ask questions on any issue involving Wicomico schools. No appointment is needed. Each visitor will have approximately 15 minutes to meet with the superintendent. Follow-up sessions will be held if there are more visitors than there is time on the scheduled night. Open Door Sessions are also scheduled for 4-6 p.m. March 18, April 15 and May 20. 410-677-4495
