At last night’s regularly scheduled meeting, on a 4:0 vote by the Santa Barbara Unified School District Board of Education (absent: Kate Parker), FrannWageneck was appointed assistant superintendent of student services. She will begin her new role on July 1, 2015. She will replace Assistant Superintendent Mitch Torina, who will become the assistant superintendent of human resources on July 1. Since the 2013-2014 school year, Frann Wageneck has served as the principal of La Cuesta and Alta Vista high schools. Principal Wageneck is from Santa Barbara. She attended La Colina Junior High School and San Marcos High School. She studied at Chico State, where she earned a BA in political science and history. She continued her studies at the University of La Verne, where she earned an MS in educational psychology, with an emphasis on school counseling. Then, went on to Cal State Northridge, where she received a master’s degree in educational leadership and policy studies. Ms. Wageneck has worked in the Santa Barbara Unified School District in several capacities, first as a counselor at Community Day School and La Colina Junior High School, followed by assistant principal assignments at Goleta Valley Junior High School, Santa Barbara High School and, ultimately, La Cuesta and Alta Vista high schools.
