This year’s tournament takes place in North America. Who will win it all?

This year’s League of Legends World Championships will take place in North America, running from the end of September through the end of October. Teams from Asia, Europe, North America and South America will compete for the Summoner's Cup, with a sixth champion to be crowned at the end of the month.

The loaded field includes defending Worlds champions SK Telecom T1, Korean champions ROX Tigers, undefeated Chinese champions EDward Gaming and North American champions Team SoloMid, who look like one of the strongest Western teams ever to enter the field. Two Western teams made the semifinal last year (Fnatic and Origen, both European teams who missed the field this time around), but there has not been a Western finalist since the very first Worlds — a tournament that did not include any Korean or Chinese teams.

The tournament will start with a group stage. Each team will play the other three teams in its group twice in best-of-ones. The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout round, where series will take place over best-of-fives.

The last three Worlds have been won by Korean teams: SK Telecom T1 in 2013, Samsung White in 2014 and SK Telecom T1 in 2015. The last non-Korean team to win it was the Taipei Assassins in 2012.

You can watch all the games at lolesports.com, and follow it all at The Rift Herald, our League of Legends community site! This post will be continually updated throughout the tournament as results come in.
