Change is good!  Like many other households, I’m always on a mission to save more money.  Any extra little bit saved on everyday items can be stuffed away for a rainy day or applied to saving for something fun.  One way I do this is by shopping at ALDI Food Markets for my everyday grocery needs.  I’d like to introduce you to your local ALDI, show you how YOU can save and prepare you for some of the changes you might see compared to other fancy smancy grocery stores.

Going Green

ALDI keeps the prices down, but also cleans the planet by not using paper or plastic one-time use grocery bags.  According to reusit.com, the US alone plows through 100 billion single-use plastic bags per year; bags that contribute to an estimated 46,000 pieces of plastic floating in every square mile of ocean water.  Instead, plan to bring your own reusable grocery bags.  Not only will your cans not cascade through the flimsy plastic, you will also be doing your part to save the planet.  Don’t worry, if you forget your bag, ALDI extra large reusable bags are available for purchase at checkout.  All stores aim to conserve energy from the way shelves are stocked to product packaging on ALDI brand items.

No Frills Saves you Money

Stocking in shipping cartons, small staffs and offering 1,400 of the most used grocery items (compared to 30,000+ at a gourmet grocery store) helps ALDI save you money. Less staff and less overhead keeps ALDI prices low and money in your pocket.  Since there is no dedicated cart staff, make sure to bring a quarter to use a cart.  Deposit a quarter into the lock on the handle to release the cart and when you have completed your shopping, simply return it back to initial location, lock it in and receive your quarter back.

ALDI carries the most commonly used meats, fruits, vegetables and bakery items, but none of the other obscure items and brands that clog the shelves at other grocers.  Only accepting debit, EBT and cash also helps prices remain low by not having to pay astronomical processing fees for credit cards.  ALDI also offers their own brands, which are made from the same high-quality ingredients as popular national brands, but cost 50% less.

The Proof is in the …. Chili

Yes! The proof is certainly in the chili.  I took the Switch and Save challenge by buying additional groceries I needed to make a giant pot of 30-Minute Chili at ALDI and another local grocery store.  The difference was a whopping 44%!  Think of how much you could save over time by shopping at ALDI.  For this discussion, I will estimate an average weekly grocery bill being $100.  By shopping at ALDI, you could save $44 per week, that adds up to $2,288 a year!  By switching to all ALDI brand products you can save 50% off your grocery bill.   All of this saving does not require hours spent cutting coupons or a special card.   Although on this date I didn’t need any spices, ALDI did have all of the spices I would need with prices over 50% less than national brands.  ALDI also offers weekly Special Buys and beer and wine in select locations.

Now I encourage YOU to take the ALDI Switch and Save challenge by visiting your local ALDI and comparing prices to some of the items you use on a weekly basis.  I’d love to hear what you find!
