Barnet FC’s New Hive will be a welcome new ground for Impdom, now that the slope of Underhill is no more. The new well appointed venue offers so much more than the old, but it was a place where the game of two halves was perhaps coined, for ’twas a scene of some high-scoring games for both the Imps and the Bees in the halcyon football League days.

Gary Simpson an early English exponent of the Dutch 4-2-3-1 style and guile meets Edgar Davids in a clash of two cultures. Mr Davids has stirred up a bit of a hornets nest in the land of honey, by first making himself number one and then having two Saturdays off, if the rumours and stattos are to be believed. Both may play football, but where Edgar extols the virtue of the free and flowing, Simmo keeps it tight with 6 allowing an awesome foursome to flourish. He needs to with a budget afforded by a board that habitually proves that it can peel an orange in their pocket without wasting a drop. Mmmm, indeed but in all seriousness the Imps are the underdogs at Barnet and who could blame them for coming and parking the bus?
Edgar’s emissaries of not quite total football, will pose Lincoln problems, forget potential bad hair day in the wind, here we are talking a man on a diet of castor oil with a cough. The Right-back Yiadom, more yellows thus far than a typical year 9 or 10 boy going through puberty, is an all-action wing-back in the Newton mould, suggesting an interesting duel down that flank. A tenner on a Newton free-kick opener could be worth a flutter, but with Marsh-Brown also a menace we must avoid any two on ones.
The two centre-backs, Acheampong & Stephens are immense and will pose problems in either box, suggesting Thomlinson or Wright will not beat them in the air in a month of Sundays. Fortunately this is on a Saturday and pace could have them if left-back Johnson can also be outwitted. One positive is that he is unlikely to cross the centre line, although he is competent at his job, allowing Miller a bit of scope with Power surely coming into his own, what with the fresh legs hunger and all.
The Barnet midfield trio would bless any side at our level, three energetic skirmishers with skill to boot, they dominated for long periods against Halifax before going down 2-1. That is one thing about the busy Bees, they do concede, even if keeper Stack is more than competent and hard to beat. Casabella sits and protects the back four whilst Weston and Byrne get amongst among and scheme. Marsh-Brown and Gambin are very dangerous indeed suggesting no one should criticise the manager for using defence as the best form of attack tomorrow.
Leading League marksman Hyde will be a handful for Boyce and Brown in the air and on the ground, His knock-backs have have afforded Marsh-Brown the opportunity to feed on the scraps three times this season and Byrne, with two, also appears a worry from deep. Gambin is a tricky little customer in the old inside left mould, his creativity sees him lead the assists charts and he too has a choice goal to his name.
So draw the Sting Imps and hope to hit them on the break. It is a long journey down, but it will be all the shorter back with a hard-earned point to keep us there or thereabouts..
