LETHABO ESTATE
What might come as a surprise to some, is the fact that this beautiful place is situated a mere 20 minutes’ drive from Four Ways, Johannesburg. So you don’t have to spend hours driving, just to get to your destination. Set in Lanseria, near the Lanseria International Airport, and on the banks of the Crocodile River.
If things like a private spa treatment for two, a game drive or very romantic picnic in the evening or by the riverside is part of your idea of being romantic, then this is definitely the place where you should be.
When we take a closer look at the accommodation that they offer, you will see that there is a guest house with double en-suite rooms. Each of the rooms has their very own private balcony where you can relax and enjoy some of the most beautiful views that the Nature Reserve has. Add a glass of wine or cocktail, and your all set for a romantic time.
There is also a Willow Tree Lodge, which can be described as a lover’s haven. Set under a big Willow Tree, this is a thatched A frame structure. When staying here you can enjoy a sunken Jacuzzi spa bath, and a double hammock that is situated on the water’s edge, for that quality time alone. And did we mention that there are also lots of candles?
And when it comes to dining, you can expect to enjoy some top class cuisine at the gourmet restaurant, while overlooking the dam.
MATLAPA LODGE
If you spend every day in the city, then there is nothing better than a few days in the country side, to relax and recharge your batteries. And what better than to enjoy it with the one you love. Situated in Magaliesburg, you are surrounded by the beauty of nature, which include about 60 hectare of countryside. Set in a garden with around 70 species if indigenous trees and a wide variety of birdlife, you can really relax while enjoying a magnificent sunset.
The accommodation consists of standalone chalets. Each chalet has its own private garden. If you are someone who likes the old world charm, then you are going to love it here. Here you will find an old fashioned bath, antique bed and a lovely fire place for those cold nights. There is also an outside shower set in the garden. All the things you need to add to the romantic atmosphere.
Other facilities that you will be able to enjoy include a beautiful swimming pool that looks out over the town of Magaliesburg. There is also a dining room where you can of course enjoy a delicious breakfast or dinner.
TENTETOE
Beautiful views of nature, peace and quiet, spending time with the one you love without interruptions, this all sure sounds like heaven. If you feel the same, then this is the place you have been looking for. And if you both like camping, it sure is a bonus. Tentetoe is situated just outside of Potchefstroom, on a 100 hectare game reserve. Here you will stay in luxury tents with a relaxing and peaceful bush surrounding.
When we said there will be no interruptions, we meant it. Leave your cell phone and laptop at home, because the tents have no electricity. But don’t worry, solar and battery lamps will provide you with more than enough light, while donkeys are used for warm water. Now I know what most of you are probably thinking: This place is never going to see me, right?
Well before you totally discard TenteToe as an option, the tents are after all very luxurious and comfortable. Each of the tents has its own private deck with braai. Also equipped with modern furniture, the tents have built in bathrooms, a small living room and a fitted kitchen area with gas stove. Not bad right? But the best part is snuggling up with your love around a cosy fire, enjoying the night sounds.
So be sure to take a closer look at this place, the next time you want to escape the big city.
HARTBEESPOORTDAM LODGE
Another great place not too far and with beautiful accommodation is the Hartbeespoortdam Lodge. Here you can expect only the best – luxury accommodation, excellent service, delicious food and a few days of pure relaxation.
There are six beautiful en-suite rooms available to guests. Four of these rooms are equipped with spa baths, while the other two rooms consist of showers. Other features that you will find in the rooms are a Television and coffee and tea making facilities. On the premises there are four separate braai areas in the garden.
