General Chat

For those who leave the forum for a hiatus, they can easily play catchup with their friends by finding out What's on their mind. MechanicalPen gave some insight into how the creators of PokeMon and Zelda got their inspiration. However, his suggestion that people should go outside and enjoy life worried KasperKalamity who felt that outdoors and he were incompatible. Meanwhile the Kalamity Herald made a retraction on last week's Pride article.

At the same time, freetime20 posted a news bulletin about how a UK watchdog banned Dungeon Keeper advertisements as it found that the advertisements misled its customers. Ahzoh saw the thread but was unsure of its status as it didn't appear to be spam or an advertisement. But he was worried that it may have appeared as a must buy thread. Since then, DerVVulfman discovered a google link to the news and felt it was a legitimate article for gamers. After that, he moved it to the General Chat board when it was accidentally found in Forum Games. And in difference, he thought it came across as a buyer beware warning.

Games Development

Development Discussion

For those wishing to play catch up with their fellow game-makers, it isn't hard to ask them What's up with their RPG Game Making endeavors. DerVVulfman was apparently in for a surprise when finalholylight told him of an unexpected bug with MicKo's Skill Tree, one he didn't notice even though it was in his own personal game. Since then, he announced that a rewrite was due. Since then, Steel Beast 6Beets thought the bug sounded more like a challenging aspect, noting that the glitch could give enemies an even hand, while KasperKalamity noted that the bug was actually a feature in the Super Nintendo game, 7th Saga. But MechanicalPen felt that DerVVulfman's correction would allow every character to have unique skills. Since then, DerVVulfman announced that he had a new version available with some interesting changes and additions.

Upcoming Projects

Always looking to improve his system, Charlie Fleed asked anyone playing Hartacon Tactics to let him know if they were using Windows 8 or 8.1. At the same time, he wished to inform Pherione that he has plans for the conjured wall effects to have HP of their own, so enemy players could destroy them. Since then, MetalRenard wished to inform Charlie Fleed that he has played Hartacon on both Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 while Pherione played it with Windows 8.

Code Support

After much discussion within the topic where ThePrinceofMars asked for a Random map selection script which does not use the same map twice, success came as ThePrinceofMars praised MechanicalPen for his help,

Right now, Djigit is having some issues and is trying to detect an Attack from an enemy to a specific in a condinitional branch. While he has some experience with RPGMaker XP, he has none in scripting and would like to know how to detect if Actor #17 in his database has been attacked so he could activate a trigger. KasperKalamity was curious if common events could work, but both DerVVulfman and MechanicalPen posted some possible and conjectural scripted code rather than something that could be used in a script call in a Troop's battle event. Since the, Djigit mentioned how he needed the system to be used to work in a trigger for a counterattack system. He also added that he was using a variation of ATOA's CTB and while it comes with its own counterattack script, he had not been able to make it properly work for his purpose. MechanicalPen suggested that Djigit post a copy of his edit to ATOA's system seeing that a custom edit may be warranted, and DerVVulfman began pondering configurable edits to ATOA's counterattack system to either perform an action or activate a game switch if desired. While interested in testing it, Djigit was fairly sure that the suggestions wouldn't work as the actual script were themselves bugged. He is hoping that someone could download the demo to put do some scripting magic.

At the same time, Djigit also mentioned he was having Problems with the Counterattack addon of Atoa Custom Battle System made by our own Victor Sans. He described how he downloaded the ATBS from his VictorScripts site and how Victor Sans added plenty of add-ons to the demo, keeping them placed below the 'main' script so the end-user can grab whatever script he so chose to copy paste whatever add-one he saw fit to activate. Unfortunately, that is where Djigit's problems began. Other chan setting up the counterattack status in his project, he changed virtually nothing and and still got errors whenever the hero makes an action. He posted shots of his error message and the location of where the bug is occurring in the script, but would really appreciate it if someone could help him figure out what is going wrong. DerVVulfman said it has been a while since he's messed with Victor Sant's battlesystem. And while he discovered that the counterattack script relied on the use of another addon, he was unable to get an actor to counterattack, even with the most basic of conditions (just being attacked). He was hoping that Victor Sant may lend a hand or explain what was wrong. Djigit replied that what DerVVulfman did garnered an error on line 475/476. He had some questions on whether the system could be edited to not rely on the ATB or CTB and was curious about a couple of battle variables which he thinks could aid him in scripting. Since then, DerVVulfman replied that he too had a copy of the battlesystem, and had performed some testing. However, he felt the counter attack system was not performing any real counters. So he supplied a script which would turn on a switch if Djigit's actor was attacked while he was inflicted with his counter attack state.

Material Development

Scripts Database

Last week, finalholylight stumbled onto a glitch with a skill tree system by MicKo. But as if in responce to the problems discovered, DerVVulfman unveiled MicKo's Skill Tree - Revised, a rewrite of MicKo's system that not only lets the game designer make tree systems like those in Diablo, but adds new features previously unavailable. In his design, DerVVulfman sought to ensure that when an actor leveled up a skill, it would not affect the skills to any other player or enemy. At the same time, he also added features such as class-based skill trees and after some bumps and a little hurrah by Tigurus Fae, he added skill point caps, worked out some tweaks to the Change Skills event command, and more.

Script Requests

It appears the the team over at ChaosProject had halted all RMX-OS Online Development once the system became stable in its basic form. However whitespirits was curious if anyone would be willing to work on some plug-in scripts to add new features to this latest RPGMaker XP MMO engine. He was hoping that a HUD could be crafted a Party HUD so it could be used in tandem with the Blizz ABS, a Auction house system, event spawner and global item drops feature.

Meanwhile, The Prince of Mars, while working on his First Person Shooter, was curious if anyone knew how to make a Melee attack which could hurt more than one enemy when equipped with a certain weapon. His intent is to be able to fire a shotgun that could hit multiple targets with one shot.

And while doing that, The Prince of Mars was also curious if anyone could make a HUD that could show multiple ammo counters and ammo types at the same time. He already has a working ammunition system by Syn, but he would appreciate help so he could see all the ammo he has, be it bullets, shotgun shells, plasma charges, all at the same time. And for those interested, he has a mockup of how he would like it to appear.

Resources Database

When one ventures into a game making site's resources board, it is typically filled with an endless supply of graphics. This week, however, something new had come forward as MetalRenard had graced us with Some Jingles. Uploaded as a single audio file, he made these tunes some time ago and has given them to anyone who's interested. All he is asking for is due credit if used.

Resource Requests

Right now, Narzew is on the lookout for some custom Labyrinth Tilesets he would like to have in a custom arcade style dungeon crawl. He's looking for quite a variety, from ice walls, to stone floors. yamina-chan inquired about the tilesets he requested based on the dimensions he specified for his tileset request, and suggested that he specify what RPGMaker style/layout he was looking for. Since then, he felt that the RPGMaker VX/VXAce style would be most appropriate.

In the meantime, Narzew was also curious if anyone had a Compiled the VX/VXA Tilesets for use in RPGMaker XP. He new about a set a year ago, but lost it.

Special Projects

ReGaL (RPG Game Lab)

The Talk Box

SoulPour777 gave some thought Regarding ReGaL that once it is released, he would like to add it to his personal list of game making engines.

Well, that's it for this week.
