Ten hockey players from Sault Ste Marie, Ontario and surrounding area that include five defenseman, three forwards and two goaltenders will join 60 other players in the Fifth Annual NOHA Development Weekend in Sudbury on August 4th to 7th, 2016, at Laurentian University and the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex that is being hosted by the Northern Ontario Hockey Association (NOHA).

The NOHA Development Weekend, which will see more than 150 participants from across Northern Ontario participate, is comprised of three events, The Sixth Annual NOHA Referee School, an Under-15 Camp, and the Third Annual Advanced Skills Analysis Coaching Seminar.

Over 70 players born in 2001 will be participating in the Under-15 Camp, which is being held in conjunction with the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) and the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) as the NOHA begins the identification process for Team NOHA. Team NOHA will compete in several showcase events in 2016/2017 including the OHL Cup and the OHL Gold Cup. The OHL Cup is an annual event that sees the best Minor Midget Teams in Ontario compete in the Greater Toronto Area.

The OHL Gold Cup is an event that is being held for the fifth time and will see the top 160 2001-born players in Ontario compete for an opportunity to attend the 2017 Team Canada National Under-17 Development/Selection Camp in Calgary next August.

The Sixth Annual NOHA Officials Development Camp will see 16 Officials from across Northern Ontario; learn from some of the top Officiating instructors in the province. Among the facilitators include Glen Campbell NOHA Director of Officials, Conrad Hache (OHL Director of Officiating), Ken Miller (OHL Officiating Manager), Dave Brisebois (NHL Linesman), T.J. Foster (OHL Referee), Rick Morphew (OHF Referee-in-Chief). Participants will learn through classroom discussions and on-ice sessions and will also have an opportunity to officiate games throughout the weekend.

The third annual Advanced Skills Analysis Coaching Seminar will be attended by 17 Coaches from across Northern Ontario. These coaches will be also learn from many highly experienced Hockey Personnel such as David Matsos (Sudbury Wolves Head Coach), Don McKee (Hockey Canada Facilitator), Drew Bannister (Soo Greyhounds Head Coach), Daniel Tkaczuk (Chicago Wolves Assistant Coach), Matt Bourgeois (NOHA Goaltending Consultant) and Stephen Surcon (NOHA Coaching Facilitator).

These coaches will also have the opportunity to run practices with the players participating in the Under-15 Camp, and will coach the players during the games.

Practices and on-ice Combine Testing for the players and coaches are scheduled throughout the day on Friday, August 5th. While Games will be held on Saturday August 6th and Sunday, August 7th. All of the games are being held at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex.
