On Sunday September 20th at Laird International Raceway (LIR) in Echo Bay, Ontario, we saw long time Modified division race driver Rick Ellis hang up his helmet for the last time after fifty years of racing at the 2015 LIR Season Championships.
In a seven car LIR Modified division Aussie pursuit, veteran Nick Kozak brought home the seven lap race. Eight cars took part in the eight car Aussie pursuit in the Factory Four division with John Robinson only needing three laps to take the pursuit. In the Factory Stock division Aussie pursuit, Mark Porpelia won the five car race.
The LIR Modified division took to the track for a ten lap heat race that started with 10 cars on the lead lap. Dustin Jackson driving the white Team Jackson car held off Nick Kozak in team orange Team Jackson car to bring home the heat race with Keith King rounding out the top three in the LIR Modified division heat race.
In a nine car heat race in the Factory Stock division, Jason Praysner took the ten lap race for first with Jerry Ross crossing the line in second while Jarritt Varcoe placed third in the Factory Stock heat race on Sunday afternoon. Ten cars went back and forth in a ten lap heat race in the Factory Four division with John Robinson capturing the heat race ahead of second place Brent Fewchuk and third place Jacob Heimonen. Six cars raced ten laps in the Super Late Model division heat races with Heyden’s Rob Hiiemma holding Keith King and Roddy Bolduc for second and third respectively in the Super Late Model heat race.
After the intermission on Sunday afternoon at LIR, the Steel City Outlaw George Wilson won the thirty lap feature race with the 2015 LIR Season Champion Rob Hiiemma finishing in second ahead of third place Keith King. In a entertaining forty lap Factory Stock division feature race, young gun Chase Wilson needed the fire crew to help extinguish an engine fire on the front straight away on lap 24. Josh Maitland brought home his first ever career feature race ahead of Jason Praysner and Echo Bay’s Jerry Ross. JP Delpaggio didn’t finish the Factory Stock feature but still had enough points to capture his first ever Factory Stock division Season Championship in his short racing career.
The LIR Modified took to the 1/3 mile track for a fifty lap feature at Laird International Raceway Sunday afternoon with ten cars starting the feature division race. The young Dustin Jackson held off Mav MacDonald Jr and Josh Ware for the Season Championship day feature win. With placing second in the LIR Modified division feature, Mav MacDonald Jr won the 2015 LIR Season Championship.
Ten cars hit the track to round out the 2015 LIR racing season in the Factory Four division with John Robinson lapping most of the field to win the Factory Four division feature. Heimonen and Rebecca Fewchuk finished second and third behind Robinson. Jacob Heimonen brought home the 2015 Factory Four division Season Championship on Sunday afternoon.
