PALO ALTO, CA and TEL AVIV, ISRAEL—(Marketwired – November 19, 2015) – Innovation Endeavors, an early–stage venture capital firm backed by Alphabet Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt, today released its 2015 Israeli Internet of Things Landscape. Based on a three–month research deep dive, the Innovation Endeavors team created a visual breakdown of Israeli Internet of Things (IoT) players, identified key trends impacting the sector and evaluated Israel's ability to lead the IoT market.

“IoT represents the ultimate bridge between the digital and physical worlds — it will undoubtedly transform lives in almost every industry. Given the amount of high–quality IoT startups coming out of Israel, we believe it will become a world leader in this space,” noted Innovation Endeavors Managing Partner Dror Berman.

Based on more than 50 market reports, countless meetings with top Israeli and global technology leaders, Innovation Endeavors evaluated IoT vendors based on their position in the IoT value chain, vertical, sub–vertical, and stage to create the 2015 Israeli Internet of Things Landscape. The graphic classifies the 330 current IoT players based on existing taxonomies, as well as newly defined verticals and sub–verticals. In addition to renaming some verticals to better account for overlaps, Innovation Endeavors added new verticals and sub–verticals to address emerging categories. For instance, Resources encompasses companies that address the natural environment, such as energy, ag–tech and water, while IoT–Enabling Technologies includes technologies that peripherally facilitate industry growth like wireless charging or smart 3D interfaces.

In addition to the landscape, the Innovation Endeavors research also recognized three important trends:

Israeli IoT activity is booming — IoT represents a surprising five percent of the Israeli startup ecosystem, with companies addressing unique problems across many major markets.

Israeli IoT leverages the country's established strengths — Most of the IoT activity in Israel plays to the country's unique strengths in healthcare, life science/ ag–tech and cyber security, which are all extremely relevant to IoT.

The Israeli IoT industry is far from mature and severely lacks infrastructure — An unbalanced distribution in terms of stage and level creates both challenges and opportunities for entrepreneurs with most companies on the landscape stuck in the middle stages of their lifecycle and focused around the Applications category rather than other levels of the stack.
