LOS ANGELES, CA—(Marketwired – June 30, 2016) – Sports fans, music fans and memorabilia collectors will have the chance next month to own a unique piece of Los Angeles history. Assets from the iconic Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, a fixture in Southern California's music, sports and convention scene for almost six decades, will be sold during a one–day online auction on Wednesday, July 13, 10 a.m. (PDT).
Inspection of the items up for auction will be held on Tuesday, July 12 at the Sports Arena, 3939 South Figueroa, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Registration for the auction is open at http://gaauction.com/event/los–angeles–memorial–sports–arena.
The auction is managed by GA Global Partners of Los Angeles.
The Sports Arena has been at the center of Los Angeles' big events ever since it was opened in 1959 by then–Vice President Richard M. Nixon. Since then, the arena has been the scene for everything from the 1960 Democratic Convention, where John F. Kennedy accepted the presidential nomination, to Olympic events including the 1984 Games.
For many years, the Sports Arena was home for the NBA Lakers and Clippers, USC Trojans and UCLA Bruin basketball, as well as the NHL Kings. It has been the site for men's and women's NCAA Final Four championships, the WWE, indoor soccer, professional boxing and track. The Sports Arena has been used as a backdrop for television shows such as “Charlie's Angels” and numerous movies, including the original “Rocky.”
As a music venue, the Sports Arena was the host for such acts including Pink Floyd, U2, Michael Jackson, Madonna, The Grateful Dead and Bruce Springsteen, who played the last concert at the Arena on March 21.
Included in the Auction will be Stadium Seating, Turnstiles, Concession Stands, Scoreboards, Dasher Boards, Hockey Goals, Stages, Risers, Player Locker Rooms, and Stadium Signage, Banners and Photos. Other items will include Commercial Speakers, Stage/Show Lighting, Restaurant Equipment, Arena Club Furnishings, Bars, Media Room Equipment, Boilers, Chillers, Break Room Equipment, Executive Office Furniture and more than 50 Years of accumulation from the “Hallowed Halls” of this Southern California Landmark Stadium.
