California Life Sciences Association (CLSA), the nation's largest statewide life sciences public policy and business solutions organization representing over 750 of California's life sciences innovators today released the following statement regarding the 2016–2017 May Revision of Governor Jerry Brown's budget proposal. This statement may be attributed to Todd Gillenwater, CLSA's Executive Vice President, Advocacy & External Relations:
“We are encouraged by Gov. Brown's efforts to increase healthcare quality and access and applaud his effort for funding MediCal benefits to the 185,000 children in most need of healthcare. But we have ongoing concerns about legislative proposals that would dramatically hamper research, development and patients' access to new life–saving medicines.
“SB 1010 would prioritize paperwork and bureaucracy over research and development, inhibit medical progress and, instead of improving patient access and affordability, place patients in California at the end of the line. We urge all Sacramento decision makers to stand with patients in encouraging medical progress, and continuing to support research and innovation. On behalf of the more than 750 life sciences organizations we represent, California Life Sciences Association opposes SB 1010.”
