New Delhi, February 11, 2014 Auto Expo 2014, the biennial show of the Indian automotive industry, came to a successful close on Day 7 of the Motor Show at India Expo Mart, Greater Noida. The exposition, jointly organized by- Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), was held from February 5-11, 2014 for the first time at a different venue in 28 years.

Mr. Vikram Kirloskar, President, SIAM, expressing his delight on the success of the show said, “We believe this Auto Expo has successfully been able to evolve from a rudimentary exhibition of vehicles to a showcase of manufacturing strength and technological capabilities that we as a country possess. With over 70 new products being launched and over 5,60,000 footfalls received, we believe this Expo will be recognized as a harbinger of good fortune and prosperity for the auto Industry. We would like to thank all those who visited the Motor Show as well as all our exhibitors, partners and the media.”

The Auto Expo 2014 had 105 stalls including 47 manufacturers exhibiting from 10 countries worldwide. The Motor Show witnessed 9 Indian launches and 3 global launches in Two-wheelers category, 9 India launches and 8 global launches in Commercial Vehicle segment and Passenger cars on display included 25 India launches and 15 global launches.

The first two days, exclusively for media, saw new investments, launches, concepts unveiled by global CEOs signifying a kick start for an industry turnaround in 2014. Day 1 saw presence of industry stalwarts and public figures like Mr. Ratan Tata, Mr. Anand Mahindra and Mr. Cyrus Mistry. The day was also graced by Mr. Sachin Tendulkar, Ms. Priyanka Chopra, Ms. Kareena Kapoor complementing an impressive lineup of vehicles on display at The Motor Show 2014.

Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Mr. Praful Patel officially inaugurated the 12th Auto Expo on February 6 and then announced open the Electric Mobility Pavilion for visitors. The exhibits at Theme Pavilion displayed various concepts of Hybrid Automobiles, and had sessions educating visitors about the nuances of Electric Technology along with a practical experience of driving electric cars and two wheelers giving consumers a first-hand experience of the vehicles.

The 8th Styling & Design Conclave and Automotive Design Challenge’13 was organized in New Delhi, with the central theme of “Emerging Markets: Creating Value through Design”. The day long annual conclave showcased country’s potential in becoming a Global Automobile Styling and Designing Hub, and served as a platform for Industry stalwarts and students to exchange ideas, concepts and role of design in building and sustaining brands.

The event was graced by imminent speakers like Mr. Pankaj Jhunja, Chairman Styling and Design Group, SIAM, Mr. Ian Callum, Design Head, Jaguar Cars, Mr. Tarun Aggarwal, Design Head, Maruti Suzuki Ltd., Mr. Mike Simcoe, Design Head (Asia – Pacific), General Motors, Mr. Siddharth Lal , MD and CEO, Eicher Motors Ltd., Mr. Anil Saini, Design Head, GM India, Mr. Axel Breun, Director (Concept Cars), Renault Design, Mr. Romulus Rost, Head of Interior Design, VW Potsdam Studio, Mr. Magnus Aspegren, Director (Design Works), BMW, Mr. Richard Chung, Vice President (Design), John Controls giving detailed presentations on topics related to the Automotive designing Coinciding with the Auto Expo, The Auto Trade Dialogue facilitated better understanding and appreciation of the needs of the automotive industries in individual countries and regions. It was attended by Steve Rodgers, President, Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association, Canada, Dong Yang, Executive Vice Chairman & Secretary General, China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), China, S Oka, Head – Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA), Kim Tae-Nyen, International Cooperation Team, Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association (KAMA), Korea

The impressive consumer response on at the Auto Expo has hinted a revival of sorts for the auto industry and the organisers and exhibitors were elated with the overwhelming response. The show successfully concluded on February 11 setting the tone for the next financial year for the auto industry.
