Like so many of you I am into that whole “New Year, New Me” thing and for many of us it starts with our health.  It’s so easy to pack on a few extra lbs around the holiday season.  I mean lets be real who can pass up that delicious dessert tray mom always makes or those cute little holiday themed treats lining the isles at the stores.

Well, January is officially kicked off and it’s time to take control of your body.  I recently discovered a new book that can make all of the difference.  The Prime is a key resource for those of you who are ready for weight loss without the typical d word we all stress about, yep diet.

Integrative neurologist Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary discovered a beautiful side effect to the eating and lifestyle tools she gave her brain patients–shedding excess pounds. In this, her first book, she shows readers that weight gain is a result of the body being in a toxic, inflammatory state. If your body is not prepared or ‘primed’ for weight loss, you will fight an uphill biochemical battle, and the odds of succeeding are slim. So she’s reverse engineered our way of eating, so we can stop dieting backward and start succeeding instead.

I can honestly say this was one of the best books I’ve read in a long time.  This booked reinforced my thoughts that your brain does play a role in your dieting habits.  I loved learning about if you have a leaky brain.

You can also find out how you score on the Gut IQ quiz and the Fake Fat quiz.  It really can affect your weight loss challenges.

Using a blend of cutting-edge science and ancient wisdom, Dr. Chaudhary has crafted a plan like no other. I am someone who always struggles with dieting.  It’s so hard to lose that first or last 10 lbs.  I finally understand why it can be so hard for some of us and other’s never struggle.  It’s not always what you eat, but also what you digest.

I absolutely love the way the book is written.  Dr. Chaudhary does a great job of connecting with her readers.  She shares her own experiences even at a young age of feeling bloated as a child and how it affected her diet.  She goes through the book to break down the stages of the Prime.

There are 4 Stages of the Prime

Activate a Biochemical Shift

Crush Cravings (No Willpower Required)

Ignite Energy and Fat

Biohack Your Lifestyle Habits

I think it is so important to realize that this is not a diet. This is a change in your system by adding simple herbs and teas.  You don’t have to give up the foods you love or feel like you are sacrificing or missing out on life.  The importance of neuroadaptation, food addiction, and the brain is covered numerous times in ways that many of us can relate to.  Dr. Chaudhary did not set out to write this book as a weight loss tool which is another reason I think it is so successful.  It is more about understanding your body and tweaking more than just what you put in your mouth.

In a recent interview she stated, “Once you wipe a lot of the bad bacteria and the yeast in your gut, because your addictions are driven in part just by the chemicals they release, it feels miraculous. It’s just biochemistry, but it really is this amazing, liberating feeling, and it’s just because your gut isn’t forcing your brain into this neural adaptive prison.” The book goes more in depth about this and it just truly amazed me how much control we let things have on us and we aren’t even aware.

Clearly, it’s obvious that I enjoyed this book.  I’ll be putting it to the test over the next few months and have no doubt I’ll be seeing a lifestyle improvement with energy and hopefully that spontaneous weight loss. <img src="http://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/72x72/1f609.png" alt="
