Ericom AccessNow brings SAP Business One straight to your browser. No need for an app: Access all relevant data on your mobile device using only your HTML5-compatible browser.

The trend toward increased smart device usage and growing mobility requirements within companies shows no sign of slowing down. A representative study by high-tech association BITCOM showed that one in five employees are now provided with a smartphone by their company, and nearly half of all employees also use their private mobile device for work purposes, also known as bring-your-own-device (BYOD).

A company’s success will increasingly depend on employees being empowered to make the right decisions quickly, wherever they may be, so there is little doubt that efficient deployment of mobile solutions and services can improve organizational agility and thus competitive strength.

Apps cover only part of the ERP system

Following the spirit of this development, apps are supposed to help support sales consultants on-site, keep track of processes, and essentially provide every single piece of relevant data with a single click. Unfortunately, native apps tend to provide only a small subset of what the central ERP system actually has to offer – a direct consequence of running on a mobile system. Apps are supposed to take up as little storage space on the mobile device as possible, which is one reason for this restriction to key features. Another decisive factor is that “slim” apps are easier to port to other platforms. What makes sense from a technical perspective, however, does not necessarily meet the user’s needs on-site.

What happens if an employee in dialog with a customer needs that very information which the basic app cannot provide? Or if an app’s support of aging devices is discontinued due to compatibility issues? Frequently, some apps’ design and functionality is aimed only at specific target groups or industries, such as management or the technical field team.

Access data through your browser

For this reason, Ericom AccessNow is bringing SAP Business One straight to your browser. The type of mobile device and its operating system are irrelevant. All that is needed is an HTML5-compatible browser that supports Javascript. Instead of installing and configuring an app on a smartphone or tablet, all the user has to do for immediate access to the familiar SAP Business One interface is open his or her mobile browser and enter the URL of the company’s AccessNow server. Because AccessNow makes the application “Web-capable,” no plug-ins, software updates, or synchronization is required on the client side.

To achieve the best possible user experience, AccessNow integrates Ericom’s Blaze compression technology. This method enables faster content delivery to target systems, which is especially advantageous in high latency or low bandwidth environments.

In large system environments, availability, performance, and scalability can be achieved with Ericom Powerterm WebConnect. In addition to offering HTML5-based access to SAP Business One, this solution also fulfills all requirements concerning load balancing, connection broker, and failover.
