“Toasting 10” Is County’s First Philanthropic Women’s Organizational Summit
Recognizing Collective Impact, Discovering New Possibilities
Capitola, CA – January 19, 2015. Women In Philanthropy (WIP), a United Way special interest group focused on helping drive county-wide youth success, is hosting Santa Cruz County’s first gathering of women’s organizations with the special ‘Toasting 10” event on Thursday, February 12 from 6 to 8pm at the Museum of Art History, 705 Front St. Santa Cruz. Admission for women’s organization guest representatives is $40.
United Way Women In Philanthropy, founded in 2005, is acknowledging the impact of WIP and the numerous related programs demonstrating a heart for Santa Cruz County. The first-time, Valentine’s Day-themed event will help overcome a degree of isolation among women’s groups by sharing and celebrating the achievements of the various groups actively helping people in our county. One result of the gathering will be improved information about local community needs and how various organizations can partner to address needs.
“Many women’s groups have been serving Santa Cruz County for decades but people don’t know much about other groups or their missions,” said Mary Lou Goeke, United Way of Santa Cruz executive director. “This event will create opportunities to familiarize ourselves with others who work in similar ways. Additionally, we plan an assessment calculating the collective impact of Santa Cruz County women philanthropists through donations of time, money, items and service. Perhaps even more significantly, this gathering is also an opportunity for creating a directory of philanthropic women’s groups which can lead to better communication and collaborative support among groups with overlapping goals. Lastly, we hope it will become an opportunity to hold an annual, unifying, celebratory event.”
Creating Symbolic Art for Display
Participating women’s groups/organization are invited to create a two dimensional heart representing their focus or mission. These hearts will be display from February 12 to 15 in the Museum of Art History gallery with descriptions of the group’s/organization’s work in Santa Cruz County.
