Companies are always looking for ways to improve communication in order to improve business practices and customer service. In recent years, unified communications and collaboration has grown as a successful means of cost cutting and improving communications.

A recent report from IDC found that interest in unified communications is driven by video conferencing, mobility, business process integration and collaboration. Additionally, a large percentage of the global market is transitioning from traditional telephony to unified communications and collaboration platforms.

"UC&C customers have a variety of excellent platforms to choose from, but also the challenge of figuring out which vendor solutions are most appropriate for them," Rich Costello, IDC Senior Research Analyst of Unified Communications/Enterprise Communications Infrastructure, said in the report. "Selecting a UC&C vendor solution should be based on several factors including whether vendors meet the organizational criteria for call control, user profiles, communication and collaborative applications, cost savings and benefits, and revenue-generating opportunities."

According to Business2Community contributor Iain Pemberton, unified communications adds flexibility and allows users to communicate via their chosen method, whether its VoIP, messaging, video or something else.

Businesses are always looking for ways to lower expenses and make operations more cost efficient, and unified communications is a way to achieve that, said Transparency Market Research. It also helps improve productivity and efficiency because unified communications brings together multiple communications applications and allows for quicker execution and delivery.

Pemberton also noted that the report by Transparency Market Research said that video conferencing capabilities as well as the growing popularity of bring your own device policies are drivers of the unified communications market's growth.

Enterprises have unique and often complex communications technology ecosystems, but all businesses need resilient, secure and always available communication, so Sangoma offers a range of media gateways that offer distinct features and benefits.
