Our favorite time of the season (right after Oktoberfest) is Halloween, so as every year we have put together a long list of events and things to do around town so you can simply pick and choose your favorite ones…

Spirits in Sanford
When: Friday September 30th-Saturday October 1st
Where: Jeanine Taylor Folk Art Gallery 211 E 1st St
What: 8th Annual Spirits in Sanford Reception & Art Show
The Champagne Reception Preview Party (6 – 8pm) on Friday, September 30 allows devoted collectors to see the show first and buy early. Attendees will enjoy blood orange champagne cocktails, gourmet hors d’oeuvres, photo opportunities with costumed characters, and a chance to mingle with the artists in an intimate setting. Costumes are encouraged but not required.
Saturday’s show, on October 1, is open to the public from 9am to 3pm and will showcase a wide variety of styles including papier mache collectibles, art dolls of spun cotton, polymer clay figures, and jewelry. The fourteen juried artists will be present, selling items that are original and hand-made.
Passionate collectors seeking handmade and one of a kind offerings will want to come early for the best selection at this edgy and spirited Halloween art show and sale.
Admission: Fridays Reception: $20 includes gourmet hor d’oeuvres, artists’ mingle, and entry to show on Saturday. Saturdays Show: Entry is $5 at the door.

Paint with Nick! A kids event!

Where: Rabbitfoot Record Store Cafe 307 E 2nd St
What: Come spend a Sunday with our resident artist Nick Criscitelli. Nick will be hosting a painting class geared just for kids. Since fall is coming up he will be doing a Halloween inspired painting class. Ages 5+ are welcome. The cost includes all the materials and instruction.
Admission: the cost for the class is $15.00.

Show- Into The West: Origins of Halloween
When: Friday October 14th, 8:30PM
Where: Seminole State College, Emil Buehler Perpetual Trust Planetarium, 100 Weldon Blvd
What: “Into The West” conjures up the history of Halloween from its beginnings five millennia ago in what is now Great Britain. This show examines the Britons and the Celts, two groups of ancient peoples who laid the foundation for the modern-day Halloween celebration. The Gaelic festival of Samhain celebrated the end of the harvest season, and from this most important time came the origins of trick-or-treating, the carving of pumpkins and ghostly lore — all inspired by a small, famous cluster of stars in the constellation Taurus known as the Pleiades.
Most appropriate for ages nine and up.

What: This is an “ALL CALL” for pumpkin carvers.
The Historic Sanford Welcome Center is hosting LIVE pumpkin carving demonstrations as part of the pumpkin and Jack-O-Lantern themed Sanford Art Walk titled “Out of our Gourd!” on Saturday, October 15, 6-9pm.
Tables and booths will be provided for any pre-carved Jack-O-Lanterns you would like to sell as well as any Fall/Halloween themed arts and crafts.
Procedures –
1) Call the The Historic Sanford Welcome Center to reserve a table and/or booth by October 14th.
2) Arrive at the Historic Sanford Welcome Center by 5:30 to set up.
3) Bring pumpkin already crowned, scooped and cleaned. Feel free to improvise your design or have your design pre-drawn on your pumpkin if you already have a plan.
4) Carving demonstators can receive tips and offer their carvings for sale at the end of the event. If you plan on bringing pre-carved pumpkins for sale (or any other Fall/Halloween themed arts and crafts), please tell the receptionist when you call to register.

Zoo Boo Bash!

What: Trick-or-treat in the wildest neighborhood in town during ZOO Boo Bash. It’s a safe, fun, and not-too-scary event for young and old alike. Walk on Water Balls will also be available for an additional charge. Learn about the myths and realities of some misunderstood animals.

A special late-night planetarium presentation where the legends and stories of the night sky are told in their original, darker forms. This show is appropriate for ages 15 and up and is not suitable for children.
Admission: Admission for each show is $6 for adults, $4 for students and adults 55+, and free for Seminole State students, faculty and staff with ID.
Special deal includes $15 for aduts and $10 for students/seniors for all three presentations.
Doors open 15 minutes prior to showtime. No one may enter or re-enter the planetarium once the show begins. The planetarium is only able to accept cash and checks as payment.
