Partnership will support the CoD+A: Collaboration of Design+Art awards program.
MADISON, WI and NEW YORK, August 26, 2013 – The Art Commission today announced Interior Design magazine as its National Media Partner for the CoD+A Awards: Collaboration of Design+Art.
Interior Design’s partnership supports The Art Commission’s dynamic new awards program to honor the collaborations between designers, architects, artists, and art professionals.
“How fabulous to be partnering with Interior Design, the design authority that influences the thinking of design professionals worldwide. Better than anyone else in the design industry, they understand the intersection of design and art,” said Toni Sikes, co-founder of The Art Commission. “This partnership helps us celebrate—with a loudspeaker!— outstanding design projects that demonstrate the successful integration of art into interior, architectural, and public spaces.”
“The CoD+A Awards provide us with a particularly remarkable series of projects, distinctive in theme and character, where designers demolish the barrier between their own stock in trade and the craft practiced by artists,” said Cindy Allen, Editor-in-Chief of Interior Design. “Trying to distinguish where design ends and art begins is simply an exercise in futility when artists become active contributors to the design of spaces.”
In its first year, the CoD+A Awards received 433 entries from twenty-nine countries, representing over $48 million in commission fees for artists. An esteemed panel of jurors from the design, architecture, and art worlds judged the submissions in early summer and selected winners in each of eight design categories. The jury’s Top 100 selections were then exhibited online, where design enthusiasts from around the globe were invited to vote for their favorites. In twelve days’ time, over 20,000 votes were cast to select two additional People’s Choice winners.
The partnership between The Art Commission and Interior Design provides the CoD+A Award winners with unparalleled public recognition. Both partners will showcase the talent and originality of the entries; CoD+A Awards winners and other top finalists will be featured in the August issue of Interior Design, and simultaneously on the CoD+A Awards website: codaawards.com.
