Election Results – Board Positions 2016-17

After the recent call for nominations, the positions of Club Director and Captain of Men’s Golf have been re-elected unopposed. Club Director Colin Sinclair and Captain of Men’s Golf Frank Spurway will continue as Directors of the Golf Club Board for the 2016-17 period which also sees Paul Smerdon reappointed as the Vice-Captain of Men’s Golf for the same period.

Each of them have shown exceptional dedication and enthusiasm for their roles over the past years and with a number of major projects planned in the coming years their continued contribution is both appreciated and recognised.

Congratulations to Colin, Frank and Paul on their reappointments.

This November, Sanctuary Cove Golf staff members Ryan Gailey and Luke Ryan will once again be growing moustaches to raise money in support of men’s health.

The Movember Foundation is a global charity committed to men living happier, healthier, and longer lives. Since 2003, millions have joined the men’s health movement, raising $685 million and funding over 1,000 programs focusing on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, poor mental health and physical inactivity.

There will be Movember donation boxes on both the Golf Shop and Lakeview Bar counters, and a special ‘Movember Nearest to the Pin’ will take place on Saturday November 28.  Entry will be optional and is $5 per player.

Well done to Ryan and Luke, and good luck in reaching a new donation record. Any support of this great cause will be truly appreciated.

The Palms Short Game Facilities

On Monday 19 October, works began on improving The Palms Short Game Facilities. The upgrades are being completed by Ross Watson with the current design philosophy and standards of The Palms Golf Course. These improvements will provide:

A greatly increased surface area on both the putting and chipping greens

A flatter, more usable surface to practice on

Significant improvements to the surrounds of the chipping green to allow for an increased array of practice methods and space

Greater ability for all stakeholders to utilise the facilities simultaneously

The project is expected to last between 10 and 12 weeks. The Club will be transplanting the existing surface of The Palms putting green to The Palms’ new chipping green to hasten the process of reopening one of the greens. When the chipping green is available for use, it will be reserved for putting only until such a time as the new putting surface is of an acceptable standard.
