Jeff King, Sandy King, Phillip Billings, Rose-Maree Billings, Michael Chapman, Marcelle Chapman

Billings Cup

Winds of over 50kmh greeted players for the final of the Billings Cup, which was a closely fought match with neither team establishing a considerable lead. Michael and Marcelle Chapman lead 2up after 15 holes, but Jeff and Sandy King answered with wins on holes 16 and 17 to send the match down the 18th hole, which was halved. The large gallery following made their way to the first hole to watch the exciting sudden death playoff.  Jeff and Sandy King looked likely to become back to back Billings Cups winners, but Michael Chapman held his nerve and hit a fantastic second shot into the first playoff hole, allowing him to make a par, which was good enough to secure the Billings Cup for 2016.

Congratulations Marcelle and Michael.

Karron McComb, Morven Gemmill, Fiona Law, Irene Hall

Ladies 4BBB Stroke Match Play Championship

Morven Gemmill and Karron McComb played Irene Hall and Fiona Law in the Ladies 4BBB Stroke Match Play Championship final, which was a very tight match throughout the front 9 holes.  Both teams did not gain more than a 2up lead throughout the morning and the match was certain to go deep into the back 9. In the end, Morven and Karron were just a fraction better on the day winning the final 2 & 1.

Congratulations Morven and Karron.

Hiroshi Nishitani, Domenico D’Alessandro, Angelo Siokos, Don McBride

Men’s Foursomes Match Play Championship

Domenico D’Alessandro and Hiroshi Nishitani got off to an early lead in the final of the Men’s Foursomes Match Play Championship against Don McBride and Angelo Siokos, who were looking to go one step further than their runner-up finish in 2015. After holding a 2up lead through the turn, the match became a little closer with Don and Angelo displaying some great golf on holes 14 and 15 to tie the match. Domenico and Hiroshi countered with wins on holes 16 and 17, becoming this year’s Men’s Foursomes Match Play Champions with a 2 & 1 win.

Featured Craft Beer May – I.G.P. Pale Ale

The name stands for “Itchy Green Pants” and is a brewers’ inside joke about working in hot, sweaty conditions. I.G.P. is a hazy Australian-style pale ale brewed with summer and galaxy hops, now available on tap.

This easy-drinking beer has a pale gold to light haze colour and an aroma of fresh grain with fruity hints. It is medium-bodied with a solid malt character, balanced with an earthy hop bitterness. Its delicate fruit-salad hop notes finely round out the finish of this Australian-style pale ale.

Schooner $7 | Pot $4.5

Featured Winery May – St Hallett

St Hallett is dedicated to translating the tapestry of soils and meso-climates of the Barossa wine region in each of its wines. In 2004, it was named ‘Winery of the Year’ by international publication Wine & Spirits.

Winemakers Stuart Blackwell and Toby Barlow
St Hallett Riesling

This drop offers a pretty nose with hints of rose petal and citrus blossom, along with the customary fresh lime characters expected of Eden Valley Riesling. The citrus fruit characters are carried on a silky palate with hints of sherbet.
Bottle $38 Glass $8

St Hallett Butcher’s Cart Shiraz

The Butcher’s Cart Shiraz is expressive and complex with dense purple and black fruits, dried herbs and a hint of violet lift. Driven by dark fruits, it has layers of complexity with a liquorice and aniseed streak, black pepper, dark chocolate and a touch of sage. The palate is both silky and concentrated with velvety, mouth-coating tannins.
Bottle $38 Glass $8

These wines are available while stocks last.
