Drugs worth RM1.9mil seized in three states, syndicate busted

KUALA LUMPUR: Police busted a drug syndicate and seized drugs worth RM1.9mil in multiple raids in Sarawak, Johor and Kuala Lumpur.
The syndicate even used a new 'drug route', whereby the drugs, which came from Chennai, India, were transported through Sarawak before being sent to Indonesia via drug mules.
It is learnt the syndicate previously routed the drugs through Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) before transporting the drugs to Indonesia.
Federal Narcotics director Comm Datuk Noor Rashid Ibrahim said police arrested a 27-year-old Indonesian man in Jalan Lanang last week after receiving a tip-off.
"We also seized 3.4kg of syabu, which the suspect was carrying in a sling bag.
"We believe the syndicate used a different route after police increased security at KLIA and Sabah," he told a press conference in Bukit Aman Tuesday.
Comm Noor Rashid revealed that police also detained six other men and two men in subsequent raids at Taman Perling and Taman Desa Tebrau in Johor Baru, Jinjang (Kuala Lumpur) and KLIA between Aug 28 and Aug 31.
He said police seized 12.15kg of ketamine, 5.84kg of syabu and 7kg of ephedrine.
"The drugs are worth some RM1.9mil. We also seized RM135,400 of the syndicate’s cash during the raids," he said.
He added the raids were made in co-operation with Taiwan’s Ministry of Justice-Investigation Bureau.
Comm Noor Rashid said the suspects, aged between 25 and 61, have been remanded to facilitate investigations.
"We believe there are remaining members of the syndicate and we will find them," he said.
