From Rolex to SevenFriday, a wealth of new watches just landed at Harrods
Stroll down Brompton Road any time between now and mid-August and you can’t miss the embarrassment of horological riches on display in the windows of Harrods. The Fine Watch Room is hosting a store-wide takeover for the very first time, dubbed ‘Made with Love and Precision’. Some 23 different brands are taking part, launching a variety of new exclusives and one-off pieces – we’ve rounded up six of the most exciting.
Panerai
Making an appearance for the first time anywhere is Panerai’s Luminor Marina with a smart Harrods green dial. The Paneristi will be keeping a close eye on this one – it’s limited to 100 pieces, and comes on both a titanium bracelet and a matching green canvas strap.
The dial features full Arabic numerals rather than the usual combination of 12-9-6 and indices; flip it over and you’ll spot the Harrods logo engraved on the caseback.
PAM00693 Luminor Marina 1950 3 Days Automatic Titanio 44mm, £6,800
Speake-Marin
It’s only fitting that Essex-born Peter Speake-Marin should display a watch called the London Chronograph in the city’s best-known store. Just three pieces are being launched to commemorate the beginning of his career as a watchmaker (Speake-Marin trained at Hackney College before working on vintage watches in Piccadilly Arcade).
A striking white dial features two floating chrono sub-dials and a combination of Roman and Arabic numerals, with the Arabic numerals in an unusual Gothic font. Inside each one is a Valjoux 92 – the very movement Speake-Marin started out restoring.
The London Chronograph, £15,000
Frédérique Constant
Frédérique Constant has joined forces with Hungarian specialists at the Zsolnay Porcelain Manufacture for this beauty: the Art of Porcelain has a smooth white porcelain dial enamelled with crisply-outlined black Roman numerals.
Part of the Classics collection, inside the 40mm stainless steel case is an automatic FC-302 – also visible through the crystal caseback.
Art of Porcelain, £1,710
Baume & Mercier
The 22mm Petite Promesse is a scaled-down version of Baume & Mercier’s Promesse line which had a successful launch back in 2014. For ‘Made with Love and Precision’, the double wraparound strap comes in a delicate powder pink: ‘A fun addition,’ said Design Director Alexandre Peraldi. ‘We’re aiming for a young, fashionable client but we’re still a discreet, rather than extravagant, brand so we came back to a smaller case size.’
Petite Promesse, from £1,800
Rolex
The Presidents’ Watch turns 60 this year, and whilst America frets about who’s next what better way to celebrate than with a diamond-studded Day-Date limited edition? The white gold version with 48 brilliant-cut diamonds features the in-house calibre 3255, and is a Harrods exclusive – complete with appropriately green dial. There’s also a model in Everose gold, Rolex’s 18ct pink gold alloy made in its own foundry.
Day-Date 40, £35,800
SevenFriday
Malcolm McLaren meets Swiss watchmaking: SevenFriday’s anarchic Punk watch features a spiky rubber and leather strap, lined with tartan fabric punched with metal eyelets.
The square, industrial case is covered with black leather and metal studs, whilst on the dial red numerals in a font copied from the face of Big Ben encircle the hour disc.
Punk Watch, £1,250
